    What the gurus are saying

This toner delivers a visible radiant glow and evens out skin tone, especially for those with drier or dehydrated skin. The colloidal oats and licorice root soothe, while beta glucan draws moisture into the skin for instant plumping, an effect reviewers found impressive and well worth the value. Best applied to damp skin just after cleansing, then layered with a moisturizer.

"This one's great for drier dehydrated skin. It's great at plumping skin up instantly as well, which is nice. You can pat it on or apply with cotton pads. It's got a milky toner texture to it. In here we've got a lot great soothing ingredients. We've got oat, we have honey, uh feverfew extract, beta glucan, great for everything. There's some multitasking ingredients that are just great at everything. Beta glucan is one of those. Green tea extract, and then licorice root, which is another great soothing ingredient. So this stuff's really nice. I'm glad they haven't gotten rid of that one yet."

"This one is going to be very similar as well uh just a little bit liquidy texture but more bang for your buck in terms of ingredients"

"I was really impressed with this. I was not expecting much and I was taken aback. It is a hydrating, moisturizing toner with colloidal oats, beta glucan which is a humectant, and licorice for skin brightening. I was very impressed not only in how moisturizing this was but it really did impart a nice radiant, healthy glow. I am not kidding when I say this product really did make a visible difference in the appearance of my skin as far as evening out skin tone and just giving the skin a very radiant, healthy glow. The way to use it is after you cleanse the skin while it's still damp, pat just a little bit of this onto the surface of the skin and then apply a moisturizer on over it. I highly recommend it, especially for those looking to improve overall skin tone and texture through hydration."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
