What they liked

  • Fragrance-free
  • Two-in-one moisturizer and sunscreen
  • Minimal white cast once set

What they flagged

Nothing. None of the experts who reviewed it raised a problem.

    What the gurus are saying

Performance depends heavily on where you live: in humid areas it stays too wet and shiny with a noticeable white cast that can break down makeup, but in drier climates the white cast fades to barely detectable and the glow is beautiful. The formula itself is praised as a genuine two-in-one moisturizer and sunscreen with skin-evening ingredients.

"I really appreciate the packaging that it comes in two pieces so when you're finished with this you slide this out and you keep this and then you just buy like a new one of these and pop it in. I tried this one twice and I didn't 100 love it either time but I don't think it's terrible either, it would have been kind of in the middle for me. First time I tried it I was in Charleston South Carolina and it was humid and this didn't dry or set, it stayed really really wet feeling, it had a really super strong shine and a little bit of a white cast. I did put makeup on over it but it made my makeup like slide around, made my mascara smudge under my eyes and I didn't love that. Once I got back home to New England where it's not as humid I tried it again and it was much much better so it's one of those ones that's going to depend on where you live how greasy it feels. It still wasn't 100 a favorite, it still didn't live up to their claims which is that it's really primer-like and really fantastic under makeup. I didn't find it to be that. It does leave a little bit of white cast."

"I'm giving the Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor that is fragrance free a 5 out of 5. Yes it is a little bit pricier but it is worth it in my opinion because it truly is a two-in-one moisturizer and a sunscreen so you're replacing two products there. You've got a lot of really good additives and synergistic ingredients in there. It's doing more than just protecting your skin, it's also working to even out your skin tone, providing antioxidants, and it looks really good."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
