What the gurus are saying

The milky, gel-based texture earns consistent praise for plumping and hydrating skin while staying lightweight and non-greasy, making it work beautifully between toner and serum. Gurus found it particularly calming on compromised or tight skin, and note it absorbs cleanly without any sticky residue or scent. Those with combination skin or a weakened barrier may find this especially balancing.

"This really soothes the skin, plumps the skin, hydrates the skin, a kiss of moisture to the skin, but it also reduces redness and sensitivity. It does soothe the skin, bring anti-inflammation benefits, anti-redness benefits, and that moisture to the skin that's very calming, but it's not overwhelming. It's not oily moisture. It's not heavy moisture. So it can actually be a really good kind of moderate moisture choice for folks who need the nourishment but don't need the weight, who don't need the richness. 10 out of 10. I really enjoy this product."

"This Essence is a beautiful, beautiful moisturizing Essence. It is creamy, it's silky, it's luxurious, but it actually has like a gel base to it which actually makes it really hydrating as well. It functions really perfectly like in between toner and serum. It absorbs in really nice, it really plumps out the skin which I love. Really really hydrating, very replenishing. The milky honey moisture, the honey milk, it just locks everything in place without being greasy at the top. It has a really elegant texture where it really hydrates and plumps and softens your skin at the top but it doesn't have like an oil feel to it, doesn't like a slip at the top. It's incredibly balancing for my combination skin."

"This is my number one all-time favorite toner. I really like this because it is a very plumping, hydrating but also moisturizing kind of milky essence. It's really nice for a makeup prep type of skincare routine. All of that hydration, all that plumpness really helps to create a smoother canvas for makeup application."
Slow Morning, Late Summer Skincare Routine
"This is the Farmacy Honey Milk Essence and I've been loving this. Usually I've been using this in my nighttime routine but it's been just a little cooler this week especially at nighttime and my skin has been accepting a little bit more moisture. You can see in the texture that it is gel-like, it's got some body to it. It's definitely got like a hydration factor to it but then just that little kiss of honey moisture really just kind of like hugs all that hydration from the sheet mask and the toner into my skin and really gives this beautiful glow. There's some chamomile in here, there's some ceramide and pea along with the honey and some fermented ingredients that really help with the complexion too. Honey is an amazing anti-inflammatory ingredient, moisturizing, makes you glow right, it's just really healthy for the skin."

"I really like The Pharmacy honey milk, especially in summer, because it has a beautiful plumping gel texture rather than a milky creamy one. It is very hydrating and really plumps up the skin, with just a little kiss of honey-like moisture at the top that is great for fighting the dehydration I am prone to in summer from air conditioning."

"This one is a little bit more repairing than the Ilia. So if you have sensitive skin, your skin barrier is compromised, your skin is irritated, you have a lot of redness going on, your skin is super tight, then I would say go with this one. I was actually using this all winter and it kept my skin so hydrated. It kept it so nourished and I really loved this. I still use this even though we're coming into the warmer months. It's not heavy. It's not greasy or sticky. It actually has a very similar finish on the skin as the Ilia, but it doesn't peel with skincare products. It doesn't peel with my makeup. And it's something that I do use every day, twice a day. This one has chamomile, which is going to help calm and soothe your skin. There's ceramides in here that actually help to strengthen your skin barrier and it helps to prevent transepidermal water loss. And there's also white Hawaiian honey, which is rich in antioxidants, and this can also improve dryness, bringing in hydration. Great for all skin types. It has that liquid, thin, milky texture, and this is amazing, especially when your skin is angry and you just want to keep it nice and hydrated and repaired."

BEAUTY HITS & MISSES | WHAT'S WORTH YOUR MONEY AND WHAT TO COMPLETELY SKIP! A BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW
"This has been my go-to this winter and I am obsessed with this. I love a good essence, something that is very hydrating and plumping on the skin, also gives that glow, but at the same time a repairing product to keep the skin barrier nice and strong and repaired. This helps to prevent moisture loss as well. It does have a ceramide blend, but it also contains chamomile and there's also a Hawaiian white honey ingredient that is rich in antioxidants and gives moisture to the skin as well. This doesn't smell like honey. The Farmacy Honey Halo moisturizer has that honey smell, it also has propolis and royal jelly, but this one doesn't have a fragrance at all, so if you're not loving that honey scent from other products then I think you're going to really love this one. I just put a few drops of this in the palm of my hand, apply it to my face and my neck, and you can use this every day twice a day. Great for all skin types but especially for those that have dry, sensitive skin, or if you're experiencing dryness and irritation from an active ingredient, then I would say start using this."
MY NIGHTTIME ANTI-AGING SKINCARE ROUTINE - SKINCARE OVER 30 (WINTER/SPRING SKINCARE ROUTINE)
"This is very hydrating and nourishing, also quite repairing on the skin. If your skin is sensitive, it's really dry and flaky, and it just feels a little compromised, then this would be a lovely essence to incorporate to bring in more moisture and to calm down that irritated skin barrier. There's provitamin B5 in here, there's panthenol, chamomile, as well as ceramides. It's very milky, so you could add a little bit to a cotton pad or a cotton ball if you really wanted to, but I actually like to apply this to my hands and apply it to my skin this way. There is absolutely no fragrance to this. I thought for sure when I saw honey milk that this was going to smell like the Farmacy Honey Halo moisturizer, but this one actually has no scent. If you are looking for fragrance free, then this would be a really nice one to look into."
MY MORNING ANTI-AGING SKINCARE ROUTINE - SKINCARE OVER 30 (WINTER/SPRING SKINCARE ROUTINE)
"This product has provitamin B5, panthenol, chamomile, and ceramides. I've really been enjoying this for those days where my skin is feeling a little tight, it's lacking hydration, maybe my skin is a little bit more rosy and compromised. This product has truly saved my skin. [...] The way that this makes my skin feel is incredible. I just have this moisture barrier. It's not greasy or sticky. It doesn't have a scent to it. [...] It keeps your skin barrier in check. If you love Farmacy or you're looking for a really nice essence that is milky and hydrating and nourishing, this is a must try."

"This is actually my partner's favorite milky toner, she loves the way it feels. It has a thicker feel to it, aloe is the first ingredient, and it has this smooth consistency that makes it feel like a truly high end product. My gripe is that the packaging is small and it's a little hard to get the product out. I really do feel this is a great product for supporting your moisture barrier, and I'm not surprised I ended up liking this, it grew on me."

I Can't Finish These...My Mistakes & Product FAILS
"This is the Farmacy Honey Milk, which was gifted to me. It has too small an opening, so it's very hard to get the product out. It's not impossible, and it's probably the most forgivable product here, but it's still an example of packaging that makes a product hard to finish."
NEW Skincare: Did Purito Lie, Sephora Comparisons, & More!
"The Farmacy Honey Milk Hydrating Essence doesn't feel like the same product as the Tirtir Milk Skin Toner to me, they definitely have different ingredients, but if you're looking for hydration with a bit of moisturizing properties, this is going to give you that too. My gripe with it is that it's hard to get the product out of the packaging, the opening is too small for how viscous it is, which is a pretty constant problem I run into these days."

"I thought it would be more like a toner but it's pretty darn thick. It feels really nice. You definitely don't want to use it like a toner because it's so thick it would never absorb into the cotton. For exciting ingredients, it doesn't have any scent that I noticed. It's got aloe, honey ferment, honey camide, chamomile, and panthenol."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
