Radiant Tone Dual Serum.

"Eucerin came out with the radiant tone line last year and they have thymol in it. I have a few patients who have tried it and they actually do see success with it, especially on their breaks from hydroquinone. We avoid the rebound from hydroquinone by being on the radiant tone line. The downside to it is one, you have to use it frequently. The studies show you get max benefit by using it four times a day, which is a lot. You got to use it in the serums twice a day, sunscreen, and also in the night cream. There's ways to apply it four times a day but it is a lot. And also it's heavily fragrance and I worry about my patients who are sensitive to fragrance. It is quite strong. The nice thing about thymol is that it's blocking tyrosine powerfully without causing any halo effect around your dark spots."

"The dual serum is a lightweight creamy serum that contains the active ingredient thiamidol along with hyaluronic acid as well as a derivative of licorice root that is really meant to help soothe and calm any sort of redness or irritation. Licorice itself does have some brightening properties. I've used it with my retinol at night as well as my vitamin C in the morning and I have not gotten any irritation. I have recommended it to many of my patients in clinic that are wanting a skin brightening product without a prescription. The one thing I would have to say is I do wish this line was fragrance-free or at least had a fragrance-free version, but I haven't had any issues being irritated by this product."

"One of the most recent ones that launched is called Thiamadol. It's an ingredient that's in a product called Eucerin Radiant Tone and it's actually been available around the world for the last seven years. It's been a big component of what people around the world have been using to treat pigment, but we just got it here in the US. It works by inhibiting tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is the enzyme that is the most critical enzyme in the manufacturing of melanin. So if you inhibit tyrosinase, you reduce melanin in the skin because it can't create it. What made it unique is that it inhibits human tyrosinase. All of the active ingredients that we know of that inhibit tyrosinase have been tested on mushroom tyrosinase because mushrooms have tyrosinase, which is why they turn brown. The scientists who were working on this ingredient found an assay to look at what inhibits human tyrosinase, which is actually quite different than mushroom tyrosinase. And they found it to be a really potent inhibitor of mushroom tyrosinase. They developed this product around this active ingredient and it works great. I've been using it in my practice."
