What the gurus are saying

This lotion's urea content is what keeps dermatologists reaching for it: the ingredient softens and gently exfoliates dry, rough skin without irritation, while ceramides and amino acids shore up the skin barrier and lock in moisture. The formula is genuinely thick and rich but absorbs cleanly without grease, making it a workhorse for body texture, keratosis pilaris, and rough patches on the neck and hands. One thing to keep in mind: if your skin runs sensitive, the urea may sting a bit, so patch-test first if you're prone to irritation.

"It combines ceramides, urea, and some other natural moisturizing factors, so it's not just laying moisture on top of your skin, it's actually replenishing the things a dry compromised barrier is usually missing. For how rich it is, it absorbs pretty fast. It's completely unscented, so I tend to reach for this one when someone shows me legitimately dry skin, flaky, rough texture, that ashy look, and tightness after the shower. This is the lotion that treats it rather than covering it up. One small heads-up, if you apply anything with urea in it onto cracked or broken skin, it can sting a little bit, so make sure you heal any raw skin first before using urea-containing lotions."

"It's the user and intensive repair. I said this one last year so I was really hesitant just to say it again, but it's still the number one most frequently used product in my household. It is the number one empty I've created. So it just has to exist. The body of it is very thick. It's very rich hydration. It leaves like this protective feeling on it. It's not greasy though, not tacky. And also has some exfoliating acids in it, too. Takes a little bit effort to rub this one in. This is a frequently repurchased one for me and I buy them in bulk. I buy like three or four at a time because it really is just that incredible."

"The Eucerin Advanced Repair Lotion is a great body moisturizer. It has five percent urea in it, which is more than double what your own urine produces, and it's not going to make you smell bad. In addition to the urea, it has other beneficial ingredients like ceramide three and other natural moisturizing factors that actually help hydrate your skin and contain the lipids your skin barrier needs. If you just have dry skin and need a good moisturizer, the Eucerin is going to be a great option."

"A Urea lotion that is actually very thick, very rich is Eucerin Advanced Repair Lotion, and that's going to be on sale also fragrance-free. Arguably one of Eucerin's best products in their roughness relief series. Urea is a fantastic ingredient for dry, rough skin, for hydrating, for smoothing."

How To Get Rid Of Liver Spots On The Feet (Stucco Keratosis)
"Eucerin Advanced Repair Lotion has urea. Use these moisturizers two, three times a day to the area. Those catalytic ingredients so they get in there and they soften that, hydrate it, and help it to smooth out and flake off gently without traumatizing your skin. [...] It doesn't get rid of them or anything like that, but it does help improve their appearance, make them less noticeable."

So Many Empties 🗑 Skincare And Hair Care I Used Up 2023
"I really like this. It has ceramides, which are lipids naturally found in your skin barrier. They can become deficient with age, with underlying skin conditions. Applying them topically can help improve ceramide production, improve barrier function. This also has urea, a humectant that softens and exfoliates dry, rough skin, and it has amino acids, which are natural moisturizing factors that help improve hydration. This is a very thick formula, absorbs nicely, doesn't leave a greasy residue. It really helps rejuvenate the look of dry skin and helps improve barrier function and moisture retention. Highly recommend this. Free of fragrance."

"It's a great option if you have dry, rough and bumpy skin, keratosis pilaris. You definitely can try using it on the face, just be aware that if you have really sensitive skin, the urea may sting a bit. In addition to urea, it also has lactic acid in it and it has ceramide in it. [...] I've used this on my face, I love it on the neck, but it's really a workhorse for improving skin texture."
Korean Foot Cream I'm Loving!
"If you have really thick kind of overgrown dry cuticles, try doing a Eucerin hand cream like [...] the Eucerin Advanced Repair Lotion. This is the one with sunscreen, but they have one without sunscreen too. I mean you could do the sunscreen one of course because you want to be protecting your skin from the sun, but like I'm talking about it at night it can really help quite a bit."
*BEST* SKINCARE TO LIGHTEN KNEES AND ELBOWS | Dermatologist
"This is their very dry skin Advanced Repair Lotion. It has ceramides which are good for the moisture barrier, but it also has alpha hydroxy acids, which, as a reminder, if you do have really sensitive skin sometimes those can sting. It has alpha hydroxy acids and it also has urea, so this is one that really can deeply hydrate and exfoliate. But it's a very rich consistency. Like, they call it a lotion, but in my experience it almost behaves more like a cream. I personally prefer the lotion. This is also good as a side note if you have keratosis pilaris, rough and bumpy skin. It has amino acids in it which are hydrating and helpful for barrier function. Centella asiatica extract is super hydrating as well. This formula sinks into the skin, it's not greasy. For the elbows and knees though, this is great because it really helps lubricate the skin but deeply, deeply hydrates and softens and exfoliates away that dry, rough skin texture."

"My all-time favorite body lotion forever and ever is Eucerin, and it is important that I say it's the Advanced Repair. Now they've gotten cute and there's like ultimate repair and happy repair, but Advanced Repair with urea is the one to look for. I have the driest skin on God's Great Earth and this is like the triumphant of the Gods. This one I think is actually urea and glycerin because hello, this is brilliant. The thing about urea is what's amazing about it is that it really works as a humectant."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.
