What the gurus are saying

The pale pinkish tint sets this one apart for anyone who finds other EltaMD sunscreens too orange or warm on their skin tone. One dermatologist rates the brand highly, though the takes so far are fairly light, so there is not a ton of detailed feedback yet on how this particular formula performs beyond the tint shift.

"EltaMD UV Luminous is an SPF 41 and it has a pale pinkish tint to it so for people who find the other one to be a little bit too orange a little bit too warm they've released a new one that you might like."

"This water resistant mineral sunscreen claims to have a light rosy tint, but in my opinion it looks a bit like Pepto-Bismol. It's not greasy and it doesn't pill, but it's one of those mineral sunscreens that's a bit on the drying side, and it obviously leaves a white cast, honestly a striking white cast on the skin. I don't think it's that wildly different from any other mineral sunscreen to justify the 36 dollar price point. I love many EltaMD sunscreens and was really excited to see this tinted version, but it's just not their typical work."

"UV Luminous is another one that is all mineral. The difference here is that this one is really sheerly tinted compared to the UV glow which is much heavier tinted. It's basically like it's non-tinted but it just has a little bit of something in it to take off the edge of the transparent zinc oxide. It gives a subtle kind of luminous look but really very lightly tinted. If you are going to have a really hard time getting the UV glow to match your skin type, switch it out and try the UV Luminous. I think you'll really like it."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
