What the gurus are saying

Gurus widely respect EltaMD as a research-backed, professional-grade sunscreen brand with strong sun protection credentials, especially for sensitive and fair skin. The main caution centers on product layering: mixing other skincare into sunscreen can compromise its efficacy and defeat its protective purpose. Overall the community views it as a reliable, dermatologist-favored choice when used correctly and consistently.

"If you have sensitive skin and you've been burned before by chemical UV filters, because some can break apart in the sun and the byproducts can cause a contact dermatitis, go with a pure zinc oxide sunscreen, and you can find it in EltaMD. It's great for those with rosacea; they have a green tinted sunscreen."

"EltaMD is a very research-backed brand. There's a reason why you find it in the majority of spas you go to. Very well accredited, they give great protection to the skin, and especially for someone as fair as she is, as sensitive as her skin can get to the sun, you've got to be consistent and hardcore with the sun protection."

"EltaMD is kind of considered like the best sunscreens, at least American sunscreens. However, when it comes to sunscreens, you've got to be really, really careful about mixing anything into them. If you mix any other skincare product with your sunscreen, it can render your sunscreen useless, which means you're not getting the sun protection that you think you're getting, and it can actually lead to skin damage and irritation."

"I wear sunscreen because the Sun causes damage, it ages the skin and causes agent damage. So I try to spend my time in the sun in the early mornings or in the evenings when the UV index is low, otherwise I stay out of the sun but when I am in the sun I do have sunscreen on. This is a great morning skincare routine: cleanse, moisturize, sunscreen. I really like this routine and this advice around sun protection, wearing sunscreen and protecting your skin from the sun is also going to allow for these treatments to work best because so long as you are continuing to have unprotected sun exposure your skin's ability to utilize the tools that you're giving it to repair damage is going to be limited because you have that constant immunosuppressive effect from the UV, that constant inflammatory milieu and upregulation of collagen-destroying enzymes. You need the sun protection to prevent but also to reverse."

"So many people love the EltaMD sunscreen, like Haley Bieber and all of these celebrities on Harper's Bazaar, they're using sunscreens in their routine. Sunscreen is phenomenal for your skin and it is one of the best ways to prevent wrinkles, to prevent fine lines, to prevent dark spots and melasma and more."
