"Pimecrolimus cream, the brand name here is Elidel, is a nonsteroidal prescription that works by calming the immune response in the skin. It's a topical calcineurin inhibitor, so it doesn't have any of the steroid side effects. It's been around for over twenty years, it has a solid track record of safety, and it does work in calming the inflammation of seborrheic dermatitis on the face. For long term management, a non-steroid option like Elidel is, in my opinion, a way better option for your face than steroids."

"If you get it around your eyes you might be prescribed Elidel cream, which is pimecrolimus, an immunomodulator. It works on the T cells and the cytokines within the skin to stop your skin from overreacting to something. When the barrier function of your skin breaks down and microorganisms and funguses and airborne irritations can get on it, you end up with this overreaction where your skin is basically popping out these white blood cells to try and sort of shed the irritants that are landing on your skin. That's essentially the only way I can describe it."
