    What the gurus are saying

This affordable alternative to Supergoop's Unseen delivers less-oily texture with an unexpected bonus: it works as a makeup primer and gives a pore-blurring finish for oily skin. Its clear formula won't irritate around the eyes or run into them and resists water for 80 minutes, qualities gurus highlighted. SPF 35 is fine for daily sun protection.

"The e.l.f. Suntouchable Invisible Sunscreen SPF 35 at $14 would be your widely available drugstore alternative. Also very similar in texture and ingredient profile, and this one actually offers 80 minutes of water resistance, so it's actually a step up in that department."
    ✓Yay
"I like this sunscreen because it's completely invisible on skin. It has that really smooth primer-like texture, so it's going to layer really, really nice under your makeup. It's a really good option if you struggle with consistency or you don't like the feel of traditional sunscreens because it feels really lightweight. Almost feels like a mattifying primer for your makeup."

Unbiased Drugstore Sunscreen Review 🌞 | Dermatologist's Top Picks
"This does happen to be water resistant up to 80 minutes and appears to be like a blurring primer. It [...] does in fact act like a blurring primer and it was perfect underneath the makeup. It contains the metal foam seed oil and aloe which will hydrate and soothe your skin. It is like this gel formula it has no white cast whatsoever and it does not have a super greasy feel either. It is pure chemical or inorganic sunscreen. There's no smell whatsoever. It has this velvety smooth texture."

"Love the invisible sunscreen from them. Clear colorless chemical sunscreen."

Skincare We Need To Discuss (Haruharu, Tirtir, Tocobo, E.l.f.) | January 2025
"I finally did the e.l.f. Suntouchable Invisible Sunscreen SPF 35 and I have been loving it. It's a clear colorless chemical sunscreen, zero white cast. [...] There's nothing to cast here, there's no white at all. It comes out clear, comes out colorless. It is [...] water resistant up to 80 minutes which I love, so if you happen to get sweaty doing some shoveling snow or whatever, great. I never had any issues with it causing burny stingy eyes. I used it around my eyelids and no problem."

*BEST* Sunscreen Gels With NO WHITE CAST 2025
"For Houston summers, this is a great option. It doesn't burn or sting, and it builds itself as a makeup primer as well. A lot of makeup primers are this kind of silicone-rich formula, and that's great because it smooths down all the dry skin, locks in hydration, and allows for a plumping, firming effect. In this case, you are getting the ultraviolet radiation protection on board, but then the makeup goes on over it well. And that's the case here. Really, really like it."
    Sunscreens I'm Repurchasing: Empties Edition
"This formula goes on clear, colorless, zero white cast, and I have never had it run into my eyes or cause burning or stinging around the eyes. It's also free of niacinamide. If you've used Supergoop's Unseen sunscreen, this is a great affordable alternative, [...] actually a little less oily in feel, it has isoamyl silicone that gives a nice pore blurring effect and works well for oily skin, [...] and it allows for good evaporation of sweat [...] so it's [...] great in humidity and heat."

"One that I'm really into right now is from e.l.f. It's called the e.l.f. Suntouchable Invisible Sunscreen SPF 35. I like that one. It's affordable and easy enough to carry around. I spray it over my makeup to reapply, but I also have these braids, and the parts of my scalp are exposed, so I spray it there as well."
    ✓Yay
"It's completely clean, literally leaves absolutely no white cast, and in my opinion it feels very similar to the Supergoop and Trader Joe sunscreen, just a slightly more rich texture. And again, a fantastic price point. I believe it's $14, easily accessible quality product, no white cast sunscreen. It's a winner. It is a chemical sunscreen, and I know that you guys always ask me for those recommendations, so I'm happy to be able to add another one to the list."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
