What the gurus are saying

Tati flatly says the concealer is not doing it for her. Allie Glines is on the fence, not sure it's her favorite drugstore option yet and waiting to see how it wears over time.

"The other makeup fail was the E.L.F. Soft Glam Concealer. If you have dry skin, please don't try this, it made my under eyes look like the desert by the end of the day and gave me extra wrinkles that I usually don't see using my normal concealer. Epic fail on this. Maybe if you have super oily skin, super oily under eyes, this would work for you, because the coverage was there and the coverage did stay, but it just accentuated every wrinkle and really dried out my skin."

THIS Foundation Is Crazy BAD & GOOD At The Same Time!!
"When I first put it on, I thought it looked really smooth and really nice. During the day, it has started looking more and more dry. Feel like my under eyes just look parched and dry. I got to say, the coverage is still in place, so I like it from that standpoint. So if you have super oily under eyes, you might like this. But if you're like most mature women and your skin is getting drier, I don't think you're going to like how this looks."

"It's pretty lightweight, so it's not going to give you crazy coverage, but I feel like [...] that makes sense since the e.l.f. Camo Concealer is something that's going to give you more coverage, so I like the fact that it has a little bit less. It has hydrating hibiscus complex and hyaluronic acid in it, that's why it kind of gives a little bit of a glow as well. I think that looks nice. I'm not sure if it's my favorite drugstore concealer yet, but time will tell."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
