  • Needs layering to reach full pigment

What the gurus are saying

This blush builds gradually and blends exceptionally well with foundation, creating a natural flushed look rather than obvious color, which appeals to those wanting a skin-like finish over high pigment. The shade range earns particular praise, and the formula works across different skin tones. Those after quick payoff may want to note it requires a bit more layering than some competitors, though for the price it reads as a solid investment for a foolproof, forgiving blush.

"I have these [...] putty blushes from e.l.f. [...] I'm going to mix these two together because this is a little too orange and this is a little too pink. One part Bora Bora, two parts Bahamas. Yeah, I like that."

Make your makeup look like skin! *DRUGSTORE EDITION*
"For my cream blush I'm going to be using the e.l.f. Putty Blush in [...] the really light, kind of baby pink one. I'm going to use [...] a really tiny amount so that I can build up as necessary because if I want my makeup to look like skin I don't want it to be like too intense immediately. It's already really pretty, and it's such a pretty color."

"They sit great on me. I love the Putty Blush. [...] If you're looking for maybe something a little bit more natural that you don't want to have to work too much with, the Putty would be a good one. You have to build it up a little bit more to get the pigment, so it's not quite as quick as some alternatives, but I do like e.l.f.'s cheek products. [...] And for the price, it's a bargain."

Testing The Highest Rated Makeup From AMAZON! | Amazon makeup wear test!
"The highest rated blush on Amazon was e.l.f. Putty Blush. Again, another product that I use quite often. I love the e.l.f. putty range in general, their bronzers, their contour, their primers. I personally love the putty blushes because they just blend amazingly well with the skin, with your foundation. You can't really go wrong with them either. They're kind of foolproof. And they just look like skin. It looks like I'm a delicate person just blushing. I love it. And I love the shade range in this as well. They have some really nice, deep, beautiful colors. And then they also do like peaches and things like this. Really cute."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
