What the gurus are saying

This mascara earns praise for cleanly separating each lash and delivering a natural, everyday look without heaviness, though gurus split on staying power. One reviewer gave it top marks for application and appearance but found it smudged somewhat and was difficult to wash off completely. Another appreciated the gentle lift it gave, while a third experienced noticeable smudging below the eye and found it required extra coats to build definition. At the price point, the formula appeals most to anyone after a low-key lash look rather than maximum hold.

"If I wear mascara, which is rare, this is what I'm using. I use the e.l.f. Lash 'N Roll. It's the brown one. I haven't found a mascara that I like, or it gets flaky, and then sometimes I just don't mess with mascara."

"I feel like it's a nice everyday kind of a mascara formula. It's not too voluminous, which is nice, kind of gives a little bit of like a lift to the lashes too, which I like."

"Can't beat the price for sure. It looked nice on the skin. It was a little clumpy for me. Maybe that's a personal thing. Like sometimes skincare pills on some people and doesn't on the other. [...] It was like a little bit clumpy for me, but other than that, honestly, for $8, it's really hard to beat that."

"This claims to be like super curling mascara. I feel like this is a very dry formula. Like there's not a ton on the brush. And when you're pulling it out, the squeegee is very squeegeeish. One coat is not dramatic, not anything major going on. My favorite mascara is still the Cali Ray Come Heller High Water. This doesn't really curl my lashes as much as I thought it should, and it didn't give me like the length and the volume that I get out of other mascaras. There's a little bit of smudging right under one eye. I think that's the mascara."

"The mascara, I can't really say that I'm loving it at this point. I do have a little bit of a smudge below each eye, so I like my mascara to stay put. It did take a little work to build it up, but I think the lashes are nice looking. [...] I may give this another try, I'm not going to write this one off quite yet."

"The e.l.f. mascara [...] got a five out of five for application, separated each lash, they looked really nice. For appearance I also gave it a five out of five. I love this for a more natural look. The Milani was more spiky and shiny whereas the e.l.f. was a little bit more natural looking and it definitely extended my lashes. [...] As far as smudging, the smudge factor it did smudge a touch, it got a three out of five, not as much as the Milani but it did smudge a little bit. For washability it did not do well with washability. It took a lot for me to get this off, it wasn't easy to wash off, it didn't necessarily come off in exact tubes, so it also got a two out of five for wash off."

"I'm going to go elf tubing mascara. I'm going to put a couple layers on here but you do have to watch for clumps. I've noticed with this mascara, and I do have this handy dandy little thing that I found on Amazon to kind of help separate lashes. Not all tubing mascaras go on this clumpy and I have a feeling mine is starting to dry out. You know, the one thing I do notice about drugstore mascaras is they tend to dry out faster than other mascaras, so the clumps are definitely an issue with this. But a tubing mascara is really nice because it doesn't tend to transfer during the day, which is great, especially during allergy season."

"I'm going to be using the e.l.f. Lash 'N Roll Mascara which I've been meaning to use for like a really long time and I just haven't. I doubt it'll hold my lashes up but I like the wand. The wand for this mascara is very similar to the Benefit one, they even have like the colors, you know what I mean. The Benefit one has like a lot more flexibility in the wand, like there's like a little bit of a give to it which just makes it feel a little bit nicer. This wand is just like a little bit more stiff. It's really good for my lower lashes too. I think I like this mascara. It's not something that happens often so when it does, you know."
