What the gurus are saying

One expert praised e.l.f's accessibility, product quality relative to price, and long history of cruelty-free and ethical commitments. However, another who has worked directly with the brand expressed serious disappointment over a recent business decision involving a public figure associated with domestic violence, calling it both a poor choice and harmful, and stating he no longer supports the brand for this reason.

"I have also chosen not to support e.l.f anymore. Full stop. For, you know, mainly for that reason, but also to me, a few reasons. If you're trying to rage bait people. I don't support brands that rage bait like that. Especially as something so serious as domestic abuse."

e.l.f Cosmetics Made A HUGE Mistake!! people are mad!
"I could not be more disappointed in a brand if I tried to be. I'm genuinely, feel really, really gutted. E.l.f is a brand that I have personally worked with, been to events with, have had contracts with, and really love their products. Like, genuinely. I would recommend them all the time. E.l.f was a brand that kind of showed up in spaces that mattered to people. They did charity work, they spoke out on a lot of things. And to see something like this happen is very annoying. There's a few ways to look at this. As a bad business choice, which is bad, and also just bad in general in terms of supporting somebody with money because E.l.f would have paid Matt Rife, who thinks domestic violence is funny."

"E.l.f really popular amongst early beauty bloggers and YouTubers because buying a big haul of E.l.f products to test out was super cheap, really affordable. They could get a lot and do a huge haul. The brand's accessibility played a huge part in their growth. Most agreed that E.l.f's products were generally decent quality and often better value than bigger name brands. The brand also leaned heavily into the growing desire from consumers for more ethical and sustainable beauty products. E.l.f has been a cruelty-free brand since the start, and over the years they've been involved in a long list of campaigns and promotions supporting ethical causes."
