What the gurus are saying

This blush packs serious pigment, so a light hand is key. The gurus who tried it found it blends beautifully and lasts well, and they note that a tiny amount delivers noticeable color, which means it's easy to go overboard straight from the applicator. Their advice: dab a small amount on the back of your hand first, then tap onto your cheeks, and if you do apply too much, a dusting of powder can tone it down. For the price, they see real value here.

"The E.L.F. Camo Liquid Blush is a beautiful blush. It's very, very pigmented, so you got to be careful when applying it. You have to always apply to the back of your hand first and just pick up a little bit from there and then apply it to your skin. You don't want to ever go in right with the doe foot, but it looks gorgeous on the skin. [...] I would say that this is fairly similar to the Rare Beauty blushes."

"e.l.f. is the parent company of my brand so I do have an association but I actually went out and I purchased this product myself. It's $7, which is the best thing about e.l.f. products is that they're affordable and they really do have quality. I really think that these blushes they're great. I'll probably pick up a couple more shades."

"I mean this is blending out so beautifully."

"Blush, this is what adds a pop of color and really brings your face back to life. The deeper your skin tone, the brighter the blush. It's going to make you look more awake, more vibrant, more put together. And this is that same e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush in Gorge Orange. [...] With this, a little bit goes a long way, but if you goof and put too much, you can tone it down with some powder."

"This is the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush and it's gorgeous orange. I try to do a little first and then apply more if need be because this is very very pigmented. The darker your skin the brighter you want your blush shade to be and it's going to wind up giving you a natural flush. If you go crazy with it you can always tone it down by putting some powder on top of it but don't be scared."

"I really like that color. That is nice. That's bronze bronze. Beautiful. I could use that as bronzer. If I just used the tiniest amount, that'll be really beautiful. The Coral Crush fades in so nicely. It actually looks really nice on the skin because it does have that slight shine, that nice glow to it. It doesn't look too matte on my skin, so it's making my skin look nice and glowy. Nice and healthy. This bronze would be beautiful round the whole face."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
