What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise the texture and efficacy for dry skin, with reviewers noting it strikes a balance between richness and wearability across day and night routines. A key divide emerges on value: some view it as a reliable, high-quality workhorse moisturizer worth the premium price, while others argue the formula lacks active ingredients to justify the cost compared to clinical-grade alternatives. One reviewer flagged preservative concerns and contamination issues in some batches.

"The Lala is great for winter time when your skin is super dry. I like using it for that. The LA cream has a really nice light whippy texture to it."

"Whilst this preservative is found commonly in skincare products, especially those clean beauty ones, this preservative, like many paraben alternatives, can cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals, especially at higher levels. Some batches of the Lala Retro Whipped Cream lack a preservative system, so tests actually revealed the presence of yeast, such as Candida parapacillosis and a bacteria related to the bacteria it was found. They can cause infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals or those with compromised skin."

"This is from Drunk Elephant, it's the Lala Retro Whipped Cream, and it's just such a good basic moisturizer in the best way. Obviously very high quality, but basic in the sense where there's no fragrance or anything like that. It has a very comfortable texture, not too greasy, not too light, not too heavy. It's just perfect. This has been in my routine for a very long time."

"I also love the Lala Retro Whipped Cream from Drunk Elephant. This is one that I've been using for like six or seven years as well. This is a little bit more lightweight compared to the Skin Fix, but still a very heavy-duty moisturizer. If you struggle with dry skin, it's amazing for day and night. It used to be my nighttime moisturizer mostly, but now it's more of a daytime, and I use the Skin Fix one more at night, but that's just me. Gorgeous though, love that one as well."

"The moisturizer that one is the Lala Retro Whipped Cream from Drunk Elephant. This has been in my routine for years. I do still use this, it's one of my favorite everyday face creams. It has like the perfect texture in my opinion, not too heavy, not too light. It's like the perfect amount of moisture, works great under makeup."

"It doesn't leave any residue, gets quickly absorbed within the skin, but I think that's because you've got a good formulator here. It feels nice as a product, but there's nothing in these ingredients that are going to do anything for your skin. The ingredients are probably not going to change your skin. It's all about the price you're paying. If you're going to be paying high street prices, these are great formulations, but these are the same prices as some of the things that I stock in my clinics, and my patients would kill me because they'd say my skin hasn't done anything."
