    What the gurus are saying

This cleansing oil excels at breaking down stubborn sunscreen and makeup. One dermatologist praised its efficacy for removing buildup before a second cleanse, though another expert noted she prefers other oils for her first step, still, she recommends it as a solid entry point if you haven't tried cleansing oils yet, and the brand offers a mini size to test.

"One I've used pretty consistently is a DRMTLGY Pre-Cleansing Oil. I will say that the DHC cleansing oil efficacy wise works incredibly well to remove anything on the skin."

"I have used their pre-cleanse oil. I like it, but I do have other facial cleansing oils that I prefer for my first cleanse. But if you haven't tried a cleansing oil and you haven't tried Dermatology, they have a mini so I'd give it a try. It's a nice cleansing oil. It got all my makeup off, it broke up my sunscreen, it rinsed clean. It's just I have other cleansing oils that I prefer."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
