What they flagged

  • Thick formula with lingering white cast
  • Too heavy for warm months

What the gurus are saying

The extreme richness makes this a seasonal product. It's perfect for winter hydration but too heavy for warm months and for anyone averse to thick, emollient textures. Built-in SPF 40 and shea butter deliver solid sun and moisture protection, though the mineral cast can show on deeper skin tones; if this is your only sun protection, use the full recommended amount for adequate SPF coverage.

"Dermatology Daydream SPF 40 gathers in your hair and your eyebrows, leaves a slight white cast, but your face feels really sticky and really greasy and it settles into neck wrinkles. I'm giving it two out of five because you could technically wear it on your face, but if you have a neck that has wrinkles, stay away from this one."

"This one from Dermatology is one of my favorites from Fall to Spring. I don't use this one in the summer because it's a little bit too heavy for my skin type, but the Dermatology Daydream moisturizer is lovely. It's your everyday moisturizer for your morning routine but it has a built-in SPF 40. It's all mineral, it's broad spectrum, it is water and sweat resistant up to 80 minutes, and it has a zinc oxide of 17%. I like this one for the winter because of how moisturizing it is. It's very rich, it gives my skin this nice little glow, but I also have that built-in SPF. Now, if I'm going to be outside for a long period of time in the winter, then I would maybe skip this and use a regular sunscreen where I can put two to three finger lengths of that to get that proper sun protection. But if it's cloudy, it's kind of crappy outside, then I will grab for this because I'm still getting that sun protection even though it's a cloudy day, but it's still rich and moisturizing, which a lot of the times I am looking for, especially in my morning routine. This sits really nicely underneath foundation and makeup. I just use this in the morning. I don't use this at night time because of that sunscreen."

THE BEST MOISTURIZERS FOR DRY SKIN | WINTER 2023
"This is really really moisturizing. I actually wasn't even able to use this during the summer months because of how moisturizing it was, and it can feel a little heavy on the skin. But come the winter months you almost want that because our skin just needs that moisture. This will keep your skin comfortable for the entire day. There is shea butter and there's glycerin in here. I've never experienced pilling with this, especially paired with my makeup. Because this has that built-in SPF 40, you don't necessarily need to put a separate sunscreen on top of this. But if you are going to use this on its own, just make sure that you put that proper amount so that you get that full SPF protection. You need to use the two finger rule, so this does have that push down style packaging, so you might want to do two pumps for your face and bring it down your neck and that possibly might give you enough protection. This is not tinted, so this is your true white cream. I do see a slight cast on my fair skin with this because of the sunscreen."

"This is the Daydream Broadspectrum SPF 40 Moisturizer/Sunscreen hybrid. It's water and sweat resistant up to 80 minutes and it has a zinc oxide of 17%. I use this more in the winter months during the colder season because it is very rich and very moisturizing, and my skin loves this during the colder months. I have been occasionally grabbing for this just to finish it up this past summer, but it was a little bit too heavy for the summer months for me personally. I have combination skin and I'm very, very acne prone this time of year, so I was mainly using this on my neck and my chest. But in the winter, during the colder season, I do like to use this on my face. It's very rich and moisturizing. If you have dry skin, normal skin, and you want that moisturizer sunscreen hybrid, this is a really nice one. It's not tinted. It leaves little to no white cast on my skin. There might be a slight slight cast to the skin."

"The Daydream SPF 40 moisturizer is a must try, especially for fall and winter or if you're somebody that has really dry skin. It has shea butter in it, it's very rich, it's very moisturizing. It can feel a little heavy at times if you do apply quite a bit. Since there is a built-in SPF, if this is going to be your only sun protection you do want to apply a good amount. I don't really portion out the amount with two to three finger lengths with this because I generally use it during the winter months, and during the winter in Canada the UV index is quite low, especially on a cloudy snow storm day. If it's sunny and I'm outside for a long period of time then I will use a separate sunscreen with it to get that full sun protection. I like how rich it is, it has that nice push down button style of packaging. It's all mineral, it has zinc oxide of 17%. It doesn't really leave a white cast on my skin, although if I do apply a lot I might have a slight cast, so just keep that in mind if you are somebody that has a darker skin tone. If you do wear makeup and plan on wearing foundation or something on top, it works well."

"I also really love the daydream SPF 40 moisturizer so this is a mineral-based sunscreen built in to your moisturizer that you can use of course in your morning routine and I love it because it's very rich and moisturizing perfect for winter and I love that push down button style packaging"

"Another Dermatology sunscreen that I tried earlier this year is their Daydream formula SPF 40. It's in one of those pump tops, it's a really thick formula and it just didn't work out as a sunscreen for me. I didn't give it a very good review in the spring because the white cast really lingers. It's very thick, it's very emollient, and it just kind of feels greasy to be perfectly honest. But I am going to give this sunscreen another try in the cold or windy snowy months because it's very emollient. I think it's going to be very skin protective as well as helping with sun protection."
