What the gurus are saying

Gurus respect Dr. Pen as a gold-standard, clinical-quality tool with a strong reputation and used in professional settings. The disposable cartridges are praised for hygiene. However, the recurring complaint is time and discomfort: the small treatment head requires stamping rather than circular motions and multiple passes per area, sometimes taking over an hour to cover the face, neck, and chest. Early results are visible but commitment to the process is a barrier for regular use.

"Dr. Pen is definitely the way to go if you want a real clinical experience at home and have the time and the tolerance for it. But for me, the pain and the time were the deciding factors that stopped me from using it regularly. And that's a shame because I actually have a few Dr. Pens lying around not being used."

"They're really quality products. These guys are the gold standard. In fact, they're used in many clinics. One of the best things about this is that these cartridges are disposable. You use it and you throw it away because when you're doing medical micro needling you're creating open channels in your skin which are hugely vulnerable to germs. So sterilization is absolutely critical. You don't want to reuse contaminated tools. But the reason I moved away from Dr Pen is simply time. The head on this cartridge is freaking tiny. So when I'm doing micro needling I am stamping my skin like this instead of doing the circular motion. However it takes me forever to do my face my neck and my chest because each area has to be hit three times. This can take me an hour sometimes even more. And I'm not going to lie it's also pretty seriously uncomfortable."

"The head of the Dr. Pen that I'm using for this is slightly bigger in circumference when the needles are on here, and it's going outside of that line, so I'm going to try to see if I can get a thinner device to do that. But on the circle ones I can already tell a difference with how raised they are and also how white they are, so I'm getting a little bit of results. Again, it's only my second treatment."
