What they flagged

  • Slight white cast on deeper skin tones

What the gurus are saying

Water resistance here is misleading: despite the label, this sunscreen demands constant reapplication, with less than two hours holding even during active pool use. What saves it is the invisibility, nearly undetectable on skin with barely a pale cast, and its weightless texture, which lightens the load of frequent reapplication.

"This is just a plain white sunscreen not tinted it does leave the slightest slightest paler cast on me but pretty much it rubs in and is almost invisible"

"Dr. Jart with Every Sunday mineral sunscreen at SPF 50, for 50 dollars. It is a weightless, water resistant SPF. But water resistant means nothing to me because even though it can last longer through water usage and water sports, I still reapply this very regularly if I am at the beach or at the pool. Don't be so misled with the false sense of security that it's water resistant and it's going to last throughout the day. It will not and you do need to constantly reapply, especially if you jump into the pool and it's less than two hours apart."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
