  • Yellow tint and herbal scent from arnica

What the gurus are saying

The roller-ball applicator and arnica-centella formula work together to visibly calm redness and deflate under-eye puffiness within about five to twenty minutes, making it especially popular for morning swelling and facial flushing. Beyond50Skin and Dr. Idriss both prize it for fast results on heat and inflammation, though it does carry arnica's natural scent and a slight yellow hue that some may notice. The formula is fragrance-free but unmasked, so the ingredient smell comes through as-is.

"The depuffer by Dr. Idriss is my top pick. It has a roller. You can keep it in the fridge for a cooling effect, but if you have redness, hot flashes, this is amazing for reducing redness quickly. It usually takes my skin about 5 minutes to kind of calm down."

"This is great for redness, those flushes of redness you might get or if your eyes are kind of puffy in the morning when you wake up. It has this really cool roller. Super calming and soothing ingredients. You can kind of get some lymphatic drainage. Some people keep this in the refrigerator for that kind of cool sensation. I use it usually on my cheeks in the evening if I'm having kind of a hot flash, red flush and it takes down the heat in my skin really quickly."

"Another product from Dr. Idriss that I absolutely love is the Deep Puffer Roll-On Serum. It's great for under eye puffiness, but I use it mostly for flushing. It definitely diminishes the heat in my skin and the redness in my skin when I apply this if I'm just getting a little hot flush. So this is one of my absolute favorites and I already have a backup."

"The de-puffer from Pillow Talk Durham is especially wonderful if you have facial flushing. I've done a little video with a before and after putting this on and about five minutes you can visually see the reduction in flushing. If you use it over time it helps. It has arnica and ash bark, these are combination ingredients that have proven to help with darkness and redness in the skin. It's a gooey substance but it's really cool. The roller is really nice. You just roll it on in the under eye area."

"If you're going through menopause, perimenopause, you should get it. If you are someone who has really sensitive skin, rosacea-prone skin, right, you're always inflamed, then this is going to be a great great product for you. This is something I do recommend, but its use case is going to be specific. It's not for everyone, but the ones who really need it are going to fall in love with it. I would rate this product in terms of menopause, perimenopause, those kinds of things, eight on 10."

"I was using this last spring all over my eye area. My lids get so red and they get so puffy and this has a few key ingredients in here that actually help to depuff and deinflame the eye area. But there's also soothing ingredients in here as well that help to take down that raw itchy feeling with the skin. Arnica helps to reduce the swelling. The centella really helps to reduce the inflammation and the centella in here helps to calm the look of redness down. This also has some niacinamide which can be helpful for the skin barrier. And then they also have used ash bark extract which is another depuffing active ingredient. It's just a very thin gel texture and it does come packaged with this stainless steel roller ball application. So that plus this cooling gel and soothing depuffing gel texture and then that cool rolling sensation as you just kind of glide this over the area, it feels so amazing when that skin is so raw and so red and so irritated."

Fall PM Retinal Skincare Routine + Why I Stopped Tretinoin
"This is the Dr. Idriss Deep Puffer, it's a roller serum. It has a couple of different ingredients including centella and arnica bark that help to reduce inflammation, redness, puffiness and irritation and itchiness on the skin. It's an anti-irritation, anti-inflammation serum, but what's interesting is it comes packaged in this roller ball for helping to massage and depuff and cool down those areas. I have not necessarily been experiencing puffy eyes but I have been experiencing allergic eyes, allergic conjunctivitis is very high for me right now, eyes that are red, very itchy, very watery, very gloopy, just kind of miserable. I'm a little okay today but it's because I've been using this serum. You can use this really anywhere. You twist it open, there's a locked position so you can't squeeze the serum out, and then there is an open position, so you just kind of squeeze and then once you start moving the ball there's this gel serum that comes out."
How K-Beauty has Changed in 13 Years | Chatty AM Skincare
"This is the Dr. Idriss Deep Puffer Roll-On Serum. I'm actually just going to be using the roller ball around my eye area. This feels incredibly soothing. There are anti-inflammatory ingredients in here that help not only with the redness but also with the puffiness and then it's just overall very soothing. I use this around the eye area when I've had maybe a little bit of a weepy or emotional moment. I also use this a lot in allergy season because my eyes do get quite raw, like my actual eyes get very burning and stinging and watery, and all that wateriness really starts to irritate the eye area. This has been very helpful. I started using this last year. One other trick I want to tell you about that I discovered with this one is that it's actually really good for healing wounds because all of the anti-inflammatory ingredients in it."
My Top 5 Eye Creams | 2025 Edition
"I use this for a very specific situation for my eye area and that is when my eyes get puffy when they get raw when they get irritated from either allergies or you know sometimes we cry right and it really can affect that eye area the next day. And so I really like this one particularly for depuffing. So there's a couple of active ingredients in here that really help to take that inflammation down. Including arnica which helps to reduce the look of swelling. We have centella in here which really helps with the redness that can sometimes come with allergies or crying right, and then niacinamide, you know it's a brightening ingredient. And there's also some ash bark in here that also is a depuffing agent. It's a really thin gel texture. It has a roller ball like a stainless steel cool metal roller ball and that also helps to enhance that depuffing effect for the eye area. Um and so this just feels really soothing. Really really nice. Like I said when that eye area is really raw and puffed up and irritated it really calms that down quite nicely."

"I actually really enjoy it as a soothing serum. I do reach for the Prequel one more, but when I feel a little bit bougie in the evening when I'm taking my time to get ready, or if I'm going out early and I look like I've just woke up, I will use that roll-on in particular."

"The Deep Puffer by yours truly also helps, and it helps me when I struggle during allergy season, to help minimize the puff but also to help minimize the redness and that look of inflammation."

"It's a face roller with a serum that has benefits that long outlast the rolling effect. Having arnica in there, having niacinamide in there, having ash bark extract in there, you're going to minimize the look of inflammation and redness and puffiness, and that work of those actives are going to continue long after you're done rolling."

"I love my Dr. Idriss Deep Puffer. I use it around my eyes every morning like a lymphatic facial in a bottle. I roll it around. I wake up. By the time I get up, use the bathroom, brush my teeth, make my coffee, then jump in the shower, it's usually around 20ish minutes, my eyes are depuffed by the time I come out of the shower. It doesn't mean you have to wash it off, but if it rinse it off lightly, it doesn't really bother me because it would have done already the effects that I was intending for it to do."

"The Dr. Idriss Deep Puffer, this one won all Best of Beauty. It is an arnica serum with Centella Asiatica. So it's going to reduce the look of swelling and inflammation while helping to reduce the look of redness. And it comes with a roller ball, so you can help get a lymphatic drainage as you apply the serum. And I love this ingredient, colloidal oatmeal. It really does help to soothe irritation, hydrate deeply, and help repair the skin barrier by replenishing your skin's lipids."

"This is my baby, the de-puffer. This has been a pride and joy, took me many, many, many iterations to actually get to the formula. It is an arnica-based depuffing serum that comes with a roller. The reason I made this was because I wanted a serum that continues to depuff and reduce the look of redness long after you're done depuffing with a roller. I wanted the serum to be a mirror effect of what a roller can do and more. We were able to do this and prove that it works through clinical studies. It's also a great adjunct for my patients because I'm a cosmetic dermatologist. I do a lot of treatments in my office and this helps minimize the look of bruising post-procedurally."

"The Deep Puffer has a scent that comes from the arnica. This product is this color because of the arnica. What you are smelling in this product is the arnica. The arnica has a scent but it is fragrance-free. We're not trying to mask that scent with a fragrance in order to make it more appealing to you. When something has a light scent it's technically still considered fragrance-free because there's no fragrance added. You're smelling the ingredients come through."

40s Skincare Must Haves for YOUTHFUL Aging (Anti-Aging) from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"Dr. Idriss has the de-puffer which is my staple every morning. I keep this baby next to my bed and quite frankly before I even open my eyes I roll around my eyes and massage the gel in and then I go to the bathroom then I use the toilet then I brush my teeth then I jump in the shower and by the time I come out it's like I'm open. I am somebody who have really cut out alcohol, I drink maybe once a month, but when I do drink alcohol it really does affect my eyes the next day. If I cry the next day my eyes are just like out of control. Ever since I had LASIK especially, I do feel the dryness makes my eyes more reactive in terms of puffiness. This has been a godsend in the winter. I even use it on my nose and sometimes I even use it down here to help depuff if I had a very salty meal the night before. The eyes are really truly the gateway to your soul and in your 40s your soul is puffy, so depuff with the de-puffer."

"This is my product, it is an arnica serum in a roller and this baby helps to minimize the look of inflammation, redness and puffiness. I used it this morning and I am clearly not as puffy as I was when I woke up. It is clinically proven to instantly reduce puffiness and redness within 5 minutes, but long-term results are seen when you use it twice a day for a month. It has centella, arnica, ashbark extract, and the arnica that you smell is the smell of this product. There's no fragrance, you're just smelling the pure arnica."

How to Transition Your Skincare Routine for Spring from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"The depuffer helps to reduce puffiness and redness. It is an arnica-based serum. It has centella asiatica, it has niacinamide, it has ash bark extract. It is like Spanx for the eyes. It's not necessarily an eye product, you can use it all over your face. I do use it along the jawline and the nose and my eyes, especially when I'm red, when I have a bruise or a wound or something that's swollen I use it on it because of the arnica, but I use it every day around my eyes. I apply it so it's usually next to my bed and then I roll it around my eyes. I don't let it get into my eyes and by the time I come to the bathroom and brush my teeth and use the toilet and shower and then come out it's like my eyes open up a little bit. It goes a long way. It has a weird tint to it. It has a yellow hue and a scent. The scent is the arnica. We did not try to mask it. I do not believe in that, and so you smell it as it is and you see the color as it is. It's not diluted. It is not formulated in a homeopathic fashion, which means it's diluted. It is not diluted."
Fall Nighttime Skincare Routine: Face & Body! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I use this guy religiously every morning, he's my favorite tool in the world, there are no tools that compare to this tool. The reason I use him every night and every morning is because it helps to reduce the look of swelling as well as redness. It has arnica, which has been used for years and years and centuries and centuries across various different cultures and throughout the history of medicine to help with inflammation and the look of bruising. So I use this in hopes that it helps make bruises disappear faster without leaving any residual residue."
Layering Skincare 101: Morning & Nighttime Routine | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I actually just use this arnica rolling serum that you puffer around my eyes. Is it technically an eye cream? No, this is a gel based serum, but if it's not very dry outside then you're looking for some instant gratification for whatever your problem is, i.e. redness, this would be a good one."
Skincare for Your 30s: Anti-Aging, Adult Acne, Oily Skin | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I have had laser treatments for my redness but I've also on purpose developed the Pillow Talk Durham de-puffer. It is a combination of centella asiatica, niacinamide to help regulate the redness and inflammation that comes with the hormonal shifts in your 30s, plus it has arnica as well as hydroxyphenol propylaminobenzoic acid which regulates histamine production and therefore you're not as puffy and you're not as red. Because in your 30s if you go out and you have a wild night out you're going to wake up red in the morning and this is going to be your best friend before sunscreen. It comes in the form of a roller you can roll around your eyes if you want to help mechanically de-puff but if you don't want to roll and you just want to use the serum you could take the roller head off and use the serum just like that. Use it underneath your sunscreen. It's clinically proven to reduce the look of redness."
How to Get Brighter Skin! | Skin Training with Dr. Idriss
"I have the de-puffer that I use in the morning and I use this around my eyes every morning because it's like Spanx for my eyes. It helps to reduce swelling but it also helps to reduce redness. Some melasma has a vascular component to it, and if you're finding a product on the market that can help reduce the look of redness, it can help minimize that superficial flush on your face and it can indirectly help your melasma as well."
How to Get Glowing Skin! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"This is an arnica serum that is meant to calm the skin, calm the redness of the skin. It's not treating rosacea, but if you're somebody who flushes easily, if you have a lot of redness on your face, if you have redness from acne scars or marks, or if you wake up red because of seasonal allergies, that's why I'm constantly sniffing this, it's amazing. A little bit goes a long way. The reason it is brown is because it is not diluted. When you think of traditional arnica products like Boiron that you can buy in a supermarket or pharmacy or in Europe, they're clear and you see homeopathic 10x. 10x doesn't mean 10 times as strong; it means 10 times diluted. This is not that. This is all you need for your full face, and even less if you're just doing your eyes. When you put too much, it's going to peel because it's high in actives, and you want to make sure you're not overdoing it and wasting product in the process."
Best Skincare for Your 30s: Anti-aging, Oily Skin, Hormonal/Adult Acne & More! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"The Dr. Idriss Deep Puffer Roll-On Serum has an arnica serum and a roller to help minimize swelling associated with redness. So if you have swelling associated with redness and puffiness I would try this one. If you just have redness and no puffiness or swelling you could try this one too, but it's really designed for that inflammatory component where arnica can really help minimize that inflammation."
Top 8 Ingredients to Treat Redness & Rosacea from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I love this product if you have rosacea because it is loaded in centella asiatica but it also has arnica and arnica is not one that is traditionally thought of for rosacea but it works like a charm because it helps reduce the redness and calms the inflammation in a synergistic way that your skin looks definitely less flushed within a couple of minutes when done correctly. At the right concentration arnica is tricky though because when you guys look for arnica products more often than not they're diluted in a homeopathic fashion. This one is purely brown because it is pure arnica. The color that you guys see here, this golden hue, is due to the high concentration of arnica in this formulation."

Let’s Get Intimate: Arnica | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I decided to create an arnica based Powerhouse Serum with other actives to really help reduce not only the look of swelling and puffiness but also the look of redness because when you have swelling, when you have inflammation, reducing the redness component can make a huge difference. I've combined it into a roller because people love to roll and rolling has benefits in terms of lymphatic drainage so I thought to myself why not bring the roller into the 21st century by combining it with actives that actively do what the roller does. It retails for thirty-eight dollars and it is a combination of arnica with centella asiatica and that is why it has that burnt yellow hue, niacinamide, ash bark extract, agastache mexicana flower complex as well as a few other goodies. It is a tried and true clinically proven product because we did clinical studies on this one so it is not based on hearsay. It is clinically proven to reduce the look of swelling and reduce the look of redness when used twice a day for four weeks. I use it twice a day as I do any serum in my routine and if I have any cuts or hits or bumps on my body I've rolled this on my body several times."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
