What the gurus are saying

Gentle chemical exfoliation that removes crusty, dead skin while hydrating the lips is what gurus praise about this formula. The combination of gluconolactone and mandelic acid works without irritation because both ingredients hold moisture, so lips stay smooth and hydrated rather than stripped. Many use it nightly in winter, and since it's gentle enough, they also apply it under the eyes.

"The Dr. Idriss Barrier Based Lip Peel is a dermatologist developed chemical and enzymatic lip peel that smooths, softens, resurfaces dry, flaky lips. It's really formulated to gently remove those dead skin cells without damaging your delicate lip barrier. It will help prep the lips for a balm, for treatment, or lipstick by improving the texture and absorption. It's really designed to be used once or twice a week, and then immediately you want to follow it with a nourishing lip mask or balm. It's totally fragrance free, clinically tested for sensitive skin. The ingredients here are lactic acid, papaya and pomegranate enzymes, and jojoba esters and squalane."

"I didn't know I needed a product like this, but I actually need a product like this and I really like this one"

"This is the new launch by Dr. Idriss, which uses a very gentle mandelic acid AHA exfoliation to gently exfoliate the lips. It's not going to make your lips exfoliate overnight, you kind of have to repeatedly use this for a few weeks, but it's excellent in getting those crusty bits off your lips. The Dr. Idriss line has the gloss separate from the exfoliating product. I would say the efficacy of the mandelic acid for my very dry Colorado lips is in this product. If I get those crusty sort of flat skin-like crusty bits, this takes care of it in about a week just to help exfoliate that. And it's super gentle."

VIRAL LIP STAINS! (Worth The Hype?)
"I prep my lips with a gentle exfoliating product by Dr. Idriss, this is her lip peel, much more gentle, it's a chemical exfoliant. I prefer a chemical exfoliant for my lip area. It is really important to exfoliate your lips, they get dry, they get chapped, and they flake. Just a little bit of exfoliation of the lip area, especially before you apply a stain, will help the product last longer."

"My Lip Peel is a glucanolactone based peel that you can use every night on your lips to keep your lips smooth. As long as you don't have any infections around your mouth, cold sores, etc., you could take that serum on the back of your hand and apply it lightly underneath your eyes as well because we hardly ever exfoliate the skin under our eyes. And as we get older, our skin cells turn over slower. So our fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent because our skin doesn't renew itself as well. So if you're able to exfoliate it on a regular basis without irritating your under eyes, it is very helpful."

"This is called the Barrier-Based Lip Peel, this is a first of its kind formulated specifically for lips chemical peel that is going to be gentle yet effective to help get rid of those dead skin cells on the surface of your lips. It is a combination of a polyhydroxy acid known as gluconolactone as well as an AHA called mandelic acid, which is the lightest AHA because it is the biggest molecule, so it sits more on the surface of the skin and it doesn't go as deep as glycolic acid. Gluconolactone is the glycolic acid counterpart and mandelic acid is mandelic acid, both of these are hydrating, they're going to hold on to hydration and they're going to help make your lips more hydrated. It comes in a roller ball which I'm obsessed with because it was a '90s throwback to lip smackers. I like it because you don't need too much to get onto the roller ball, you just need a little bit and then you're going to roll and let it glide on the surface of your lips. This is also loaded in glycerin."

"Glucanolactone is a PHA, the cousin of glycolic acid, and it works really nice for dry, sensitive skin, which is why I put it in the Dr. Idriss barrierbased lip peel. It's our lip basing duo. I use this, the peel, to exfoliate my lips, and I do this every night in the wintertime, not so much in the summer, but in the winter when it's very dry I will do it at night, followed by the lip base to lock it in once it dries."
