What the gurus are saying

The gurus who tested it praise how it soothes and hydrates without feeling heavy or greasy, making it adaptable across skin types and compatible with retinoids and sunscreen. Those with sensitive or compromised skin find it especially calming, though anyone using floral-extract products may want to patch-test first since peony flour could carry trace fragrant compounds. It works well layered under other products or used alone as a lightweight daily moisturizer.

"You could use it as a calming cream and then top it off with a heavier moisturizer. It really is formulated for calming the skin. That's what really made me fall in love with this cream when I first started to use it last year. I was really surprised at how soothing it felt right on contact, but it just does it in such a nice lightweight cream texture. Very soothing on application, very gentle on the skin with a nice kiss of moisture. I really love the texture of this. I think it's very soothing and healing. I think it has a lot of flexibility for different skin types and different uses. I will say more people need to talk about this cream, especially if you have some sensitive skin or irritated skin because it is something that just kind of flies under the radar, but it's actually such a good moisturizer."

Dr. Althea Worth the Hype? | 345 + 147 Moisturizer Review
"The Dr. Althea 147 Barrier Cream is one that I personally gravitate a little bit more towards than the more popular 345 cream. Dr. Althea really likes to market the 147 Barrier Cream on the soothing extracts and moisturizing extracts that they're using in the cream because it's all about the barrier. They do call out the peony flour extract in the formula, which is a floral extract. You may want to keep your eye on this if you do have sensitive skin because a floral extract may have trace amounts of fragrant compounds which could cause irritation on the most sensitive skin, though I'm not really sensing a lot of scent from this. They claim that this extract can help soothe and hydrate the skin. They're also calling out the argan and green tea seed oils which help to bring a lot of moisturization to the skin. They're using 10,000 parts per million each, so 1% each of mugwort extract, kale extract, and avocado fruit extract, all of which bring soothing to the skin, with the avocado also bringing some moisturization."

"It's not greasy and great to use on a daily basis. I actually bring this when I travel as my moisturizer. It's really lovely. It layers great with your retinoid. It layers great in the morning under sunscreen. It's fragrance-free. So all around I feel like it can benefit so many different skin types. Regardless of your skin type or skin concern, it's just a great product in general. It's super versatile and can really fit into anyone's skincare routine."

"If you're looking for an intense moisturizer or your skin just really needs that extra nourishment, barrier repair, TLC, Dr. Althea's 147 Barrier Cream is no joke. It is dense. It is creamy. It is a stunning formula and it is great for sensitive and sensitized skin as well. But even though it has that heaviness, there is zero greasiness, at least in my experience, which makes me feel that this is really great and comforting for compromised skin. Even if it's oily, this can be used by quite a wide broad range of skin conditions. It's creamy, rich, but fast absorbing with a soft, natural skin finish. I love using it for nighttime repair, and especially because it feels so non-invasive. It's not greasy or oily. It's just got this kind of matte finish that sticks to your skin. The light blue color is beautiful. In this formula, it has guazelene, one of my favorite ingredients for soothing and calming the skin. This also has avocado extract, four different types of ceramides, seven different forms of hyaluronic acid, and their special patented plant ingredient. It's got chameleia seed oil and argan oil. It's rich again without leaving any greasy residue."
