What the gurus are saying

This syndet bar (a synthetic detergent rather than true soap) has a gentler pH to cleanse and moisturize without disrupting the skin barrier, as harsh soaps can do. Dermatologists especially recommend the fragrance-free version for people with eczema or fragrance sensitivities, noting it works well on both face and body. It leaves skin clean and hydrated rather than stripped.

"Gentle soaps like the ones from Dove sensitive bar soap can be a great way to cleanse, and because most of us don't sweat as much and don't get dirty as much in the winter anyway you really don't need soap"

"I really recommend the Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar as one of my top choices for eczema prone people. You definitely want to choose the sensitive skin one because this is the fragrance free option, which is absolutely a must have criteria for cleansers for eczema."

"In the case of this Dove sensitive, this actually works great for both face and body. You could use the original, which is more or less the same thing only with fragrance. I personally prefer the fragrance-free one, but the scent of Dove original is kind of pleasant. This is a modern syndet cleansing bar, not an old-fashioned bar soap, so it doesn't have the alkaline pH that disrupts the skin barrier. It gently cleanses to remove dirt and debris while depositing moisturizing ingredients behind, just like the body wash. It's hygienic too, it won't develop a film of bacteria on it. This is $13.99, normally $18.49."

*NEW* SKINCARE DEALS AT COSTCO August 2023 🛍 Dermatologist
"The one I really like the most is Dove Sensitive Skin and by the most I mean of the ones that they have here, the fragrance free bar. This is really a nice one. It's moisturizing, it doesn't strip the skin, and it's good for cleansing. If you've never used a bar soap before, you don't need much lather. A bar soap can last a really long time. Bars do not harbor bacteria or microbes or anything pathogenic. Bar soaps are hygienic, they're waterless so they don't really facilitate micro growth."
*NEW* Skincare At Target | April 2024
"Dove Beauty bars are really good. I [...] prefer their original Beauty Bar, but they have a fragrance-free one here, the Sensitive Skin, and that's the one I recommend. [...] Dove was like one of the originals to come out with a CNET bar, which is not a true soap but a synthetic detergent bar, much milder and doesn't disrupt the acid mantle like a harsh true soap."
Skincare I Haven't Tried Before | Skincare Travel Vlog
"This is really good. You can wash your face with this. It's a syndet bar, so it's not like a true soap or a true bar soap. The pH is much better for the skin barrier, so it's gentle enough to use on the face for people with sensitive skin or atopic dermatitis."
Dermatologist Q&A: Qure, PIE, Retinoid Irritation & More Explained
"Dove Sensitive Skin Beauty Bar is a great option because it's moisturizing. It's very gentle on the skin barrier. You want to avoid bar soaps that are like of an alkaline pH, which is kind of hard to know just by walking down the body wash aisle. Harsh bar soaps can be drawing to the skin because they disrupt the pH that the enzymes there need in order to operate properly to maintain barrier function."
2025 Best Of Dollar Tree Skincare
"I love this. The nice thing about Dove is that it is a syndet, so it gently and effectively cleanses but also moisturizes the skin at the same time. My only gripe is that honestly I do not think it is a great deal to get it here, a dollar twenty-five for one bar is kind of pricey for a bar of soap."
Amazon Prime Day Skincare Deals I Actually Recommend
"For people with fragrance allergy and very sensitive skin, I always recommend considering the Dove Beauty Bar sensitive skin, fragrance-free, a pack of six bars that will last forever. I've recommended this bar soap in so many videos, it's a classic, the best bars you could pursue. It moisturizes while cleansing, removing debris gently but depositing moisturizing ingredients behind. Highly, highly recommend it. You can use it on your face, it's great for taking off makeup, and it leaves skin feeling clean but not squeaky clean, which would strip the moisture barrier. It leaves skin clean, hydrated, and moisturized."

DOLLAR TREE SKIN CARE NOT TO MISS 🛍 DERMATOLOGIST @DrDrayzday
"This is a Dollar Tree win right here, although honestly I think it's kind of overpriced to get it here at the Dollar Tree. It's Dove Sensitive Skin, and this is a great value, this is a great product. It's good, you can use it as a face wash or body wash, free of fragrance. It's a syndet bar, meaning it's not a true soap, and true bar soaps can be super drying because their pH is pretty aggravating, so this is a great one."
NEW SKIN CARE AT COSTCO 🛍 DERMATOLOGIST @DrDrayzday
"Dove sensitive skin bar, right now this is a good bar, you can use it on the face and the body. I would go with the Dove just because I'm more familiar with it. Dove is twenty cents per ounce whereas Kirkland's signature is roughly eighteen cents per ounce, so it's not like astronomical savings there, I would still go with the Dove."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
