What the gurus are saying

The gurus split noticeably on this one. Some find the formula too thick and filmy, leaving a coating feel on skin that doesn't wash away cleanly. Others praise it as a genuinely gentle cleanser that respects the skin's pH and works well across dry, oily, and sensitive types. The consistent note across reviewers: the fragrance is strong, so those with fragrance sensitivity may want to seek out the fragrance-free version instead. One thing to know going in: shrinking bottle sizes mean shoppers get less product than they might expect from the packaging.

"Dove body wash started at 34 oz and now it is 30 oz. And even more creative, some of these brands made the packaging look bigger even though you're getting much less. So you look at it, seems like a big bottle, and then you don't realize it until later you're getting actually less. Another version of Dove body wash went from 24 oz down to 22 oz."

"I'm not such a fan of their body washes. I feel like there's that quality of moisturizing cream, I feel like it's just a little bit too coat, it feels filmy. I've never really cared for that body wash like it's too thick."

"I used to use Dove all the time when I was a child because I was told that's what I had to use as a child with eczema. There's something like deeply ingrained where Dove becomes like the best thing for sensitive eczema skin, but it's really just very similar to other body washes. It uses milder surfactants, but it does have a pretty strong fragrance."

"This is one of my all-time favorite gentle cleansers. In fact, I just filmed a skincare empties video and this is one I finished and I have one actively in my shower. I use it as a second step in my double cleanse. It's a gentle gel cleanser. Great for dry, oily, sensitive, combination skin. Gentle, silky lather. Hydrating. And you get two 1.7 oz bottles for $23.99. Unfortunately, this is the one with fragrance. I have the fragrance-free one, which is what I recommend. I don't care for the fragrance in these. It's strong. The sensitive one is fragrance-free. This is gentle enough to adequately cleanse, but not disrupt skin's outermost pH to a point where it causes the enzymes there to be haphazard in terms of their function."
