What they liked

  • Fragrance-free and stable in pump packaging

What they flagged

  • Won't tackle stubborn or deep pigmentation

What the gurus are saying

Experts split on how well this works against pigmentation. Some find the formula too simple (2% alpha arbutin and 5% niacinamide) for stubborn or deep pigmentation, though it's fine for mild unevenness. Others see it as genuinely helpful for evening tone and reducing dark spots over 3 to 4 weeks. Because it's fragrance-free with no oxidants, the pump design is okay, but make sure it doesn't touch your skin directly.

"It's basically niacinamide as the second ingredient, third ingredient is alpha arbutin probably at 2%, then it's glycerin. Alpha arbutin is your tyrosinase inhibitor, that's the ingredient that's going to be working in here, glycerin is hydrating, and that's basically it, it's the most simple formula, just 2% alpha arbutin, 5% niacinamide. This is not going to clear your pigmentation in Indian skin, but if you have like uneven tone [...] and it's not bothering you too much, this is something that you might add into your morning or evening routine, that's fine, but it's not something that's going to help you with more stubborn pigmentation. As this formula is fragrance-free, there's no oxidants in this, so that's why it's okay for it to be in a pump that lets in air, just make sure it's not touching your skin. I give this a probably about 7.5 to 8 out of 10. It's okay. It's fine. And it's just not wildly effective."

"This contains 2% Alpha arbutin and 5% niacinamide along with dictus membran. Alpha arbutin helps in reducing melanin production by blocking the enzyme tyrosinase. Niacinamide reduces melanin distribution and hence reduces dark spots, and dictus membran is an antioxidant which reduces free radical damage and reduces dark spots. So overall this is a good serum for those who are looking to reduce dark spots and make skin tone more even. Use three to four drops on the whole face twice in a day and make sure to follow it up with sunscreen in the morning. In about 3 to 4 weeks time you'll see an improvement in your dark spots."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.
