What they flagged

  • Strong sulfur smell that lingers on skin

What the gurus are saying

Sulfur's antimite and anti-inflammatory action makes this ointment particularly effective for rosacea, acne, and fungal breakouts, with some research suggesting it works better than certain prescription treatments. The major caveat is the distinctive rotten-egg smell that lingers on skin, though dermatologists who recommend it stress the results often outweigh the odor. Using it twice daily as a treatment or mask tends to deliver the best outcomes, especially for those with sensitivity to stronger actives.

"Sulfur is old school, but it is one of those ingredients that can really help to regulate your oil production and calm your inflammation down and really has been shown to help with redness if you suffer from rosacea. It is drying, so you have to approach it respectfully in order to understand how often you want to incorporate it into your routine. De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment at 10% is a really nice ointment. You can use it on your T-zone, especially if you're very oily and leave it on for a little bit longer than recommended. Just make sure that your partner is not sleeping next to you because you will stink."

Sulfur: Underrated Ingredient for a Clear Skin! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"This is a sulfur ointment that retails for $10 you cannot beat it and you cannot beat how bad it smells and for that reason this is great as a spot treatment. It is the OG classic it is the most affordable and it is great as a spot treatment because I highly doubt you're going to want to use this all over your face. If you have a juicy pimple and one is really coming and it's kind of painful and it's inflamed, I'm not talking about like a tiny whitehead that's about to pop, I'm talking about like the deeper cystic kind, this can really help change the course of that pimple life when you use it early enough and you use it every single day. If you don't want to use it during the day because you don't want to scare people away use it at night."

"De La Cruz, where you can literally spend a couple of bucks, smell like a rotten egg and improve your skin in the process."
How To Fade Acne Scars: Post Inflammatory Erythema & Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
"Sulfur can actually also be an anti-inflammatory that you can help yourself with. This is one from De La Cruz called Acne Treatment, it is 10 percent sulfur. If you do break out, sulfur has anti-inflammatory benefits. But it can kind of smell like rotten eggs, so if you are active on dating apps you might want to slow it down just before a date."

"I like the combination of salicylic acid and sulfur for tinea versicolor, it's underrated but it definitely can help. You can get the De La Cruz Sulfur Acne Treatment and apply it to the affected areas, about two to three inches around, leave it on for ten minutes and rinse it off, or leave it on the skin overnight. It's a little drying, but can definitely be a game changer. It's not as good as the selenium sulfide thing, but if you didn't respond to that or just can't be bothered with it, this is another option that might get you the results you need."

Clearing Back Acne: Expert Tips And Tricks
"Sulfur is something that can be quite effective for acne. It's keratolytic and anti-inflammatory. I always recommend the De La Cruz Sulfur Acne Treatment. You can smear it on the upper back and leave it on there. You can use it daily, multiple times a day even. And unlike benzoyl peroxide, that's not going to bleach your fabrics."
How To Get Rid Of Whiteheads On The Nose
"Another ingredient that I really find to be effective for closed comedones is sulfur. Now sulfur does have a bit of an odd odor but once you get over that it can be very beneficial especially if you have very sensitive skin. It can help break up the plugged up pores and it's anti-inflammatory. One of my favorite products is the De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment. You can apply it as a mask. I have a whole video on how to use this product. It is underrated. It can be really beneficial for whiteheads."

*NEW* MERIT Tinted Mineral Sunscreen (YIKES 😱 )
"I love and highly recommend the De La Cruz sulfur ointment. It's fragrance-free. It's super inexpensive. Sulfur is awesome for acne, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, perioral dermatitis, periorrificial dermatitis, something that's happening around your eyes, those little demodex mites that can cause little red bumps, overlaps with rosacea, all of those things. Sulfur can be great for. It has mild comedolytic effect as well. But unfortunately, sulfur does smell like eggs. And the De La Cruz mask treatment does leave the skin smelling like sulfur. So smelling like eggs."

SIMPLE SKINCARE ROUTINE WITH SULFUR 😍 Dermatologist @DrDrayzday
"Sulfur is one of my favorite ingredients, it's really underrated, and I'm using it here in the De La Cruz maximum strength acne treatment, a ten percent sulfur mask. It's anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, it can help reduce the acne causing bacteria and control the mites that aggravate rosacea, and it's keratolytic so it helps unclog pores and improve blackheads and whiteheads. This can be a particularly valuable mask to consider incorporating into your routine if you have acne, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis. I like that it's pretty easy to tolerate and gentle on the skin, even for people with rosacea, and that it doesn't counteract other active ingredients so you can use it alongside them. The main side effects are that it can be a little drying, some people find their skin itches, and probably the thing that bothers people most is the odor, some say it smells like rotten eggs or a match head. It's also pretty inexpensive and easy to find."

"Next treatment recommendation is sulfur-based treatments. As you guys know, I love sulfur. I use it for my blackheads, for my pores, for oil control, for acne, for fungal acne, for perioral dermatitis. Sulfur-based treatments tend to calm down inflammation. They are also a little bit better than acid in my opinion at fighting some of the bacteria and fungi that we grow on our skin. The De La Cruz sulfur ointment is one product recommendation."

"I can't talk about sulfur without talking about the viral De La Cruz acne treatment with 10% sulfur. I think it's good for a few reasons. Number one, it's super affordable and does contain 10% sulfur, which is of the higher concentration. It's in this creamy ointment-like base that you apply on your skin and you use it as a mask, leave it on for like 10 minutes and then rinse off. Like any sulfur mask, it helps to reduce inflammation, fight acne-fighting bacteria, and over time with use can improve acne. The benefit of masks in general for treatments like this is that you definitely have the contact time that's there, but not long enough that's going to cause irritation, but enough to work. The formula is very easy to apply. It's oil-free but has a wash water-washable base that you can literally dot on particular spots if you want to treat particular spots or all over your face or particular areas of your face."
