What the gurus are saying

The laser removes noticeably more hair than at-home IPL devices (around 90% versus 80%) because its beam targets the follicle directly rather than spreading wide, and people report visible results within a few sessions. That said, it is pricey and does not work on all skin types or hair colours, so checking your eligibility first matters. Consistency matters too: using it a few times per week over weeks yields the best results, though it will not match the strength of in-office professional treatment.

"I used the €700 CurrentBody Laser Hair Removal Device on only one side of my body for six months, keeping the other untouched, to see if the results hold up outside the marketing claims. It uses an 810 nm laser, but at-home devices are dialled down for safety so the energy output is quite low compared to professional lasers, which means less dramatic results. It is essentially painless, never warming up to the point of discomfort, and treating one armpit took around two minutes, though larger areas like the bikini line took longer and were trickier to get full contact on. After six months of consistent use, three sessions a week for the first eight weeks then reduced to about once a week, there are a few patches where hair growth is substantially reduced and other areas where it remains unchanged. Overall hair growth is slower on the treated side but not drastically so, only about two days longer before needing to shave, not weeks. My own results were limited partly because my hair isn't fully dark, some of it is grey or brownish, and because a birthmark in [...] that armpit meant I had to treat more carefully around it. If you have very pale skin and very dark hair this could be a good investment, but for most people, especially with lighter or greying hair, the results will likely be modest. [...] Seeing the results after six months, I am not sure if I would have spent the money, [...] it isn't the breathtaking transformation I had hoped for, but since it's painless and no more effort than shaving [...] and plugging in the device, I will keep using it."

"I've already used this on body parts I don't care to show pictures of on the internet, and it is relatively pain free. But of course it's way too early to give you any results, it takes at least 3 months to see a reduction in hair growth."

"I've been using the CurrentBody Laser Hair Removal Device and I've actually been quite consistent with this since sometime in the summer months and I have noticed a difference in my hair loss. I still have hair, it's not completely gone. It's probably not as powerful and as effective as an in-office laser hair treatment, right, this is at home so it's not going to be as strong. But if you can be patient and use this consistently, a few times per week, this can work and I am noticing it underneath my arms. You can use this on your bikini, your legs, your arms, you can use it anywhere. This one from CurrentBody is nice and yes it is a little heavy, it's a little bulky, but I do find this to be quite effective."

"I just recently started using the CurrentBody, this is a Laser Hair Removal Device whereas the IPL removed about 80% of my hair, this device removed closer to 90%. I do have a couple treatments to go, maybe I will get 100% hair removal, but I really love this device. But it is pricey compared to the more economical IPL device. So it kind of depends on your budget and kind of depends on your goals. If you're happy with 80% hair removal then I would go for the IPL. If you're like I want to get rid of everything or close to everything then I would go for the laser device by CurrentBody."

"It's a laser so it works a little bit differently than IPL. The beam of light on IPL is kind of a wide beam of light whereas the laser is a very targeted beam. It goes right to the hair follicle. It removes any hair that you don't want on your body permanently. I have used this in three sessions over the area where I didn't have that gray hair removal with the IPL. Only about 80% of the hair was removed and that's mostly over the shin bone and my knees. I went to look this morning and I actually saw a significant difference."

"This is CurrentBody's new Laser Hair Removal Device. It is not inexpensive, but I do have a discount code for 20% off. These are game changers for me, I love using them in my underarm area, on my legs, in my bikini area. The laser gives faster results than IPL because the beam of light is more targeted and goes straight to the hair follicle. This removed about 90% of my hair, and I'm telling you this was gamechanging. You do have to look at the contour indications and your skin type though, because it doesn't work on all skin types or all hair colors."
