What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise Curology for offering personalized prescription formulations and the convenience of obtaining strong actives like tretinoin without an in-office visit. The service is noted for its ability to adjust formulas as skin goals evolve, with users reporting visible results on acne and anti-aging concerns. Common friction points are the initial tretinoin purge period and difficulty canceling subscriptions; one reviewer flagged that high potency access online comes with some caveats.

"You can definitely use tretinoin if you've never used retinol before. I would ease into it and start with the lowest dose, which is 0.25% retinol. You can get it written by your dermatologist in the office or you could go to Curology. If you're new to retinol, I would go with the 0.25% retinol because it's the starter retinol. This one also has a lot of calming and soothing ingredients in it to really calm an irritated barrier in someone who is using tretinoin for the first time."

"I first started with Curology back in 2016 and continued onward with their sister brand Azelaic Acid. The ingredient is huge because I'm so prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Azelaic acid helps to treat that while it's also working on the congestion and the redness and the bacteria and the inflammation."

All About Azelaic Acid + Product Recs!
"I have used Curology and most recently Dermatica to obtain azelaic acid. I think where these services really shine is their ability to combine other active ingredients that are a little bit more customized to what your skin needs. As I slowly started to get results, slowly started to clear my skin, slowly started to keep my skin clear, my goals started to change and so I was able to really customize that with the online services. I started working on my anti-aging goals and I moved over to tretinoin in 2020 first with Curology and then I graduated to their sister brand Agency, which is just a little bit more focused on the anti-aging journey. Both are really great; Curology is a little bit more focused on acne, Agency is a little bit more focused on anti-aging, but you can still get tretinoin with Curology."

"It could be a great option if you're looking to go for super high potency and know that now you don't always need that dermatologist visit you can often get it online. There are some caveats with this, sometimes it can be quite difficult to cancel these subscriptions."

"Curology reached out to me and they were like hey we would love to offer you a subscription, basically it was like 6 months or something free to try. I did it, it was amazing. I saw incredible benefits. My formula, I believe if I remember correctly, was benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin, and something else, azelaic acid maybe. It was still pretty gentle and I was still getting breakouts here and there, but overall my skin texture was amazing, so much better."

Everything I do to prevent wrinkles
"I was on that for about six months to a year on a relatively low dose of tretinoin including some other acne fighting ingredients. I experienced the tretinoin purge for like a good month or two, it was definitely rough. What I noticed most of all, especially when I switched to a stronger tretinoin percentage strength, was the overall tightening effect of my skin. The main reason that I got on tretinoin was because I was experiencing acne, lots of breakouts. Tretinoin is a retinoid as compared to a retinol. After using tretinoin for a couple months, people were asking me if I had Botox because tretinoin goes deep down and it stimulates collagen."
