What they liked

  • Tea tree oil and zinc oxide for acne-prone skin
  • Gentle enough for sensitive types
  • Best Korean spot treatment in its class

What they flagged

  • Lacks salicylic acid for deeper exfoliation
  • Better suited to oily skin than dry

What the gurus are saying

Tea tree oil and zinc oxide make this spot cream stand out for calming active breakouts, especially for those with oily skin. One reviewer calls it the best Korean spot treatment around, though another notes it skips stronger actives like salicylic acid, so gentler, more resilient skin gets the most from it. Those with sensitive or reactive skin may want to patch-test first given the tea tree strength.

"This right here is the AC Collection Ultimate Spot Cream, and out of Korean spot treatments, which there aren't many, this is definitely the best one. Is it my favorite spot treatment of all time? No, I wouldn't say so, but it is definitely one of the most gentle spot treatments of all time."

"But I do find that if you have you know pimples and you're looking for something gentle, this is really good. This one I think lends itself better to oily skinned people like me. If your skin is a little bit more resilient and a little bit less irritable, this is a good one. The more anti-acne ingredients in here are tea tree and zinc oxide, but I do wish it had something like a salicylic acid. If you're looking for a basic spot treatment, this is a really good one you can definitely go for it."

"This is the ultimate spot cream from the acne hero kit and it's my clear favorite out of that set. I absolutely love this, I want to buy the full size of it, though I don't think I'll buy full sizes of anything else in the kit. It has centella asiatica, madecassic acid and tea tree oil in a base of zinc oxide. Tea tree oil is a potent antibacterial and antimicrobial ingredient that works really well for me, and zinc oxide is anti-inflammatory and great for acne prone skin."

"I haven't yet repurchased the full size of this. I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that we get some really good Black Friday deals, and I would love to catch that for a good deal."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
