    What the gurus are saying

These patches earn consistent praise for their ability to absorb oil and gunk while protecting blemishes from picking and further irritation. The hydrocolloid core does the heavy lifting (it draws out sebum and creates a healing environment underneath) while the tea tree oil helps calm inflammation. Gurus recommend applying them right after cleansing, before toner or moisturizer, and note they stay put even when layering products on top.

"Another Cosrx product, the Master Patch Intensive. Yeah, smash. Great product, simple pimple patches, definitely smash."

"The COSRX Master Patch Intensive Pimple Patches are iconic bestsellers. Wherever I have an itching, a burning, a swelling, a dark patch, anything like that, I will put one of these over it to stop me picking at it. The best time to apply these is right after cleansing before you put any toner or anything on your face. They stay stuck on and you can tone and moisturize right over the top. These hydrocolloid patches are known for the ability to suck up all that gunk, all that oils, extra sebum, and just protect whatever's lying underneath. These are actually infused with tea tree, so they help soothe that area of the skin. If you've got breakouts, it's going to help calm that down and most importantly for me, they stop me making the situation worse. If I have a spot that I know I'm going to pick, I pop this over the top and I'm not going to get a dark spot from picking it. Even if I just cut myself shaving or plucking, I put one of these over the top and there's no scars whatsoever because you're allowing that space for your skin to heal. I would just buy a load anyway. I stock up on them all the time."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.
