What the gurus are saying

The mask delivers visible melasma fading, with gurus reporting it clears 80 to 90% of even stubborn pigmentation in a single treatment. The main trade-off is the full monthlong at-home protocol involves several days of intense peeling and orange-toned skin, which some find difficult to manage. Many people stop after the initial in-clinic mask and skip the extended home phase, then maintain results with hydroquinone instead.

"I did Cosmelan 1 round of it, like just the main part of it a few months ago and I felt like that really helped with my melasma. I loved the results I got from Cosmelan. The real true process of doing like the whole month of it is a little bit brutal because you're like peeling and kind of orange the entire time and I could not stand that. So this more recent time I just did the main part of it, peeled for like a few days and then I was done with it and then I just kind of maintained with hydroquinone for a little bit."

Cosmelan MD Chemical Peel: Does It Really Work for Melasma & Hyperpigmentation?
"Do I recommend Cosmelan MD, the Cosmelan MD treatment which is stronger than the home treatment? I think I do, as long as I can maintain this. It is a little bit of a pain in the butt. I can see a huge difference in my melasma just 2 and a half weeks later. My skin's looking so much better. I like it, I think it's good so far."
I Did a Cosmelan Chemical Peel at Home! Sharing the Process, Before and Afters, and Review
"The at home version of Cosmelan for me, remember this is my personal experience everyone is different, but for me this is not a big deal at all. Because it doesn't have the MD version ingredients like the hydroquinone in it, the retinol in it, it's really not intense. I was getting myself really worried about it to the point where I waited so long to do this, but you know what, if this is the worst of it then this is not a big deal. I don't think I'm going to peel, so that's good news."

"In the clinic, a great treatment for getting that deeper pigmentation out is the Cosmelan treatment, which is a natural blend of things like vitamin C, azelaic acid, as well as retinol. It's a treatment that you can do within clinic, it's a mask that's applied over the face. It's literally like magic. In terms of cosmetic appearance it gets rid of probably like 80 to 90% of even stubborn melasma, which is really, really good."

Dr. Solomon's Step-by-Step Guide To Treating Hyperpigmentation with Cosmelan | Dr. Medispa
"The main peel is stage three of the Cosmelan process and it is the Cosmelan peel. When you come into clinic ideally you come in without any makeup on at any creams on the face. You will then have your skin cleansed and we will then apply the mask or Cosmelan mask across the face and that will be painted on. You will then go home with the mask on your face and that will stay on anywhere between 6 to 12 hours depending on your skin type, depending on the oiliness of the skin, depending on your skin sensitivity, which we would have determined over the preceding few weeks whilst you've been preparing for the Cosmelan peel."

"I really like the ones that include different tyrosinase inhibitors including cysteamine. They have glycolic acid, they have Alpha Arbutin, they have tranexamic acid, plus or minus hydroquinone depending on you and your provider's preference, but these tend to be super duper effective at treating melasma. Cosmelan is one of my favorite peels on the market for melasma because it has different types of tyrosinase inhibitors."
