  • White cast visible on deeper skin tones

What the gurus are saying

This sunscreen serves as a color corrector for post-procedure redness, though the heavy texture limits its use to specific occasions rather than daily wear. The bigger issue is that the no-show claim doesn't hold up universally because some gurus experienced a white cast despite the product's promise, a gap that suggests the finish may be more visible on some skin tones than others.

"It's an SPF 50, water and sweat resistant up to 40 minutes, broad spectrum, with a zinc oxide of 10%. I love it because there's no fragrance, it's great on my combination acne prone skin, and it never peels with my skincare products. It also sits great underneath foundation and makeup with no issues, leaving a skin-like finish with a little bit of glow. It's thin in consistency, so I see little to no white cast, though a darker skin tone might see a bit of one. The thinner the consistency, the better off you are, because thicker mineral sunscreens tend to cast more from my experience. This is always one of my go-tos when I don't want a tinted sunscreen and it never disappoints. I haven't purchased another one yet, but I will be, this is so good."

"I love this one, which is the Colorescience No-Show. This is an SPF 50 and it's water and sweat resistant up to 40 minutes. This one has a zinc oxide of 10%. The texture of this is thicker than the Summer Fridays, but it works really well underneath makeup."
MY MORNING ANTI-AGING SKINCARE ROUTINE | A.M. WINTER SKINCARE ROUTINE | OVER 30 SINCERELY MISS ASH
"If you are looking for that formulation for the winter, especially if you're outdoors a lot, you're skiing, you're snowboarding, then I would recommend the Colorescience No-Show SPF 50, and it's all mineral. I really love this. If my skin is on the drier side and it's feeling really tight, I will use this one because this one is more moisturizing. I will say with the Colorescience one that I just shared, I get a little bit more of a cast with that one, honestly you probably wouldn't notice it, but if I were to analyze my skin in the mirror there might be a slight, slight cast."
COLORESCIENCE NO SHOW SPF 50 | COCOKIND DAILY SPF 32 | GROWN ALCHEMIST HYDRATING SPF 30 REVIEW!
"This is by Colorescience and this is the Total Protection No Show Mineral Sunscreen with an SPF 50. It has a PA+++ plus, it has zinc oxide of 10%, and it's also water and sweat resistant up to 40 minutes. So if you plan on being active and you're going to be sweating, this is the formula that you would want to use for that longevity. This one does not have a white cast. This one is very thin and lightweight and I really don't see a cast on my skin whatsoever. This one also leaves your skin quite skin-like but you might have a little bit of a glow. It's wearable and honestly I do feel like this is suited for all skin types including dry skin, including super oily skin as well. This has worked great underneath my makeup. This almost acts as that makeup primer and I feel like a lot of the Colorescience formulations act as makeup primers."
I'VE FOUND THE TOP-RATED SUNSCREENS FOR 2024 | I'VE TESTED THEM ALL AND THESE ARE TRULY THE BEST!
"If you're someone that wears a makeup primer before your foundation and all of your other makeup products, then you may want to consider giving this a try because this truly acts as that perfect makeup primer. I generally don't wear makeup primers because I haven't found one that actually works to keep my makeup in place for the entire day as well as going into the evening. This is like magic. It gives this airbrushed appearance to your skin. Your foundation sits so nicely on top of this. It does give the skin this velvety feel so it does look skin-like. It looks very natural. It's not shiny or sticky. It's definitely not heavy. It is very hydrating on the skin as well. Even if you're someone that doesn't wear makeup or tinted sunscreens, which this sits nicely underneath tinted sunscreens as well, this is great on its own. It does give this nice blurred out look to the skin. I highly recommend this. This is truly one of the best mineral sunscreens honestly that I've ever used, especially underneath makeup. I can't recommend this enough. If I have somewhere special to go in the evening, let's say a party or I'm going out for dinner, I will wear this before my foundation because this I can always count on to keeping my skin and my makeup in place for the entire night."

"I much prefer the no-show mineral and a touch of the secure if my skin is feeling a little flushed and red."

"This is a pure zinc sunscreen, water rated for 40 minutes of water resistance. There's a little bit of stuff in the beard, not too bad, and a little bit of white sheen on the skin. I don't want to rub that completely away because then you're rubbing away some of the effectiveness of the sunscreen, so we're going to be a little bit white today. Would I wear it in clinic? Not so sure. Would I wear it to a social function? Not so sure. But on vacation with my kids, absolutely. I appreciate the water resistance."

"This is a white liquid lotion that feels wet and oily going on. It spreads well and there are no problems in the hair. It does leave a white cast, so for something that is called no show, it does show. I give it zero out of five."

"I'm not 100 in love with this. I know a lot of people wrote in and said oh my God it's a miracle, it really literally is a no-show mineral sunscreen, but it's not really no-show on me. It did leave me the slightest white cast and you know even a slight white cast on me I feel like it makes me look just a little bit washed out and so then I have to put on makeup with it and I have to not only put on makeup but I have to cover everything that I've covered with this with makeup like all down my neck my ears because they all look whitish too. The finish was fine, it didn't feel super heavy or super greasy. This is a really nice sunscreen but on me it wasn't like a hundred percent no-show but it's pretty darn close. And if you have skin tone that's a little bit lighter than me this could be a really great sunscreen for you. I did try layering it with a tinted Colorescience SPF 50 the matte face shield and these two together were really nice. I did an eighth of a teaspoon of this and then put on an eighth of a teaspoon of this over the top. I felt like the combo of these two together was good as a sunscreen. It did drive me a little crazy because it did come off underneath my fingernails all day."

"The color science no-show mineral sunscreen"

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
