What the gurus are saying

One expert praised the elegant finish and the fact that mineral sunscreen works instantly without a wait time, making it ideal for quick morning protection. However, another dermatologist who used to recommend it expresses concern that the zinc oxide has been reduced to 12%, questioning how the brand maintains SPF 50 with that lower amount and noting it's a shame given how many people loved the original formula's texture. Those drawn to the tinted look and immediacy of mineral protection may still find it appealing, though anyone wanting maximum zinc oxide concentration may want to check the reformulation first.

"I used to recommend it all the time and use it myself but they reduce the amount of zinc oxide down to 12%. I don't understand why and I really don't know how they're now hitting SPF 50 with a reducing in zinc oxide. So it's a shame, Color Science, because actually so many of us love the finish of this product."

"I went in with this Color Science one, it's a bit tinted so it gives you a nice finish. The key difference with mineral sunscreen is that you don't have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for it to activate. Mineral truly reflects the sunlight, and because in the morning before landing they open all the windows, there's a lot of light coming in, so it's important that you intentionally protect your face."
