What the gurus are saying

Gurus overwhelmingly praise this serum as a barrier-repair workhorse, highlighting its milky texture, lightweight feel, and compatibility with active ingredients like retinol and tretinoin. The consensus strength is its hydration and soothing effect on compromised or sensitive skin. One reviewer experienced increased inflammation and irritation, attributing it to the presence of exfoliating ingredients (gluconolactone and lactic acid) that weren't obvious from the barrier-focused marketing. Most recommend using it both day and night, though some note it works best layered before heavier creams.

"Cocokind's ceramide barrier serum has a cult following, and I can totally see why. It's one of the most gentle, modern barrier support options out there. It's lightweight. It has ceramides just like in the name. And ceramides are part of the glue that hold those bricks together, it's part of the mortar. So you want to replenish your lipid matrix with the ceramides and strengthen your skin barrier. It has squalane which is barrier friendly and it helps hydrate the skin and also help with some moisturization, and then glycerin is a classic humectant that draws in water like a magnet and will plump up your keratinocytes and help give you a little bit of a glow. Following up with a moisturizer over this could help plump up the skin enough to hide fine lines and wrinkles. It's so lightweight you can use it before your sunscreen in the morning. You can consider this for oily or acne prone skin, whereas other heavier balms you've got to be careful if you're acne prone. This one I'm more confident with patients with oilier skin types because it's so lightweight and it's better for people who don't want thick creams that just feel heavy on the skin."

"This is something that I do like to purchase over and over and to have in my collection for when I need it. This is a product that you can use every day twice a day just to prevent any possible irritation. It keeps your skin barrier nice and strong and it also helps to prevent water loss. So it's a very hydrating milky serum but it's also a great one to pair up with active ingredients to keep your skin in check while you're using tretinoin, retinol, glycolic acid, anything like that. You can honestly pair this up with anything and everything. So you can use this with copper peptides, vitamin C. You don't have to stress, you can use this with anything. Even though this is considered like a water-based serum, I would still use your thinner-based serums first after a facial mist and then use this as the last serum before your moisturizer and sunscreen or before anything that is cream-based. It does have a milky consistency to it."

IF I COULD ONLY PICK 1 PRODUCT FROM MY FAVORITE SKINCARE BRANDS | FYI...THIS WAS REALLY HARD!
"If I could only pick one, I would pick the Cocokind Ceramide Barrier Serum. This is great if you have a compromised skin barrier, if your skin is sensitive, it feels irritated, you're lacking hydration, this really is wonderful to use every day, twice a day, or you can use this when you need it. I like to use this a lot in my evening skincare routine because I just feel like it keeps my skin barrier nice and strong, it keeps it hydrated, and I really love the texture of this. It's like that milky serum, it spreads so nicely across your skin, and your skin just feels so hydrated when you have this on. It really is lovely. There are multiple different types of ceramides in here, there is squalene, and there's also beta glucan. If you're looking for a serum for hydration and to repair and strengthen your skin barrier, then I highly recommend this. This is also great as a just in case, so let's say your skin is generally good and normal and you don't have any issues with irritation or sensitivities, this is good to have on hand as a just in case because you never know how our skin is going to react to skin care products."

5 MUST HAVE SKINCARE PRODUCTS TO CALM TRETINOIN IRRITATION/ RETINOL BURN FAST!
"This is one of my favorite drugstore brands but also one of my favorite drugstore products. This works so well. This one has several different types of ceramides and ceramides are really important to have in skincare when you're using active ingredients because these really help to strengthen and repair the skin barrier, but they also prevent transepidermal water loss, so this really helps to keep that moisture in the skin, keeping your skin nice and comfortable, not tight. You can use it every day, twice a day. You can also use this on your neck, your chest, anywhere where you're experiencing irritation. You can use this with tretinoin and your retinol as well because this will help to keep that barrier nice and strong but also keeping the skin nice and hydrated when you're using these actives that could potentially dry your skin out. This one has squalene, which is another hydrating ingredient, but it also contains beta glucan, and this ingredient is very similar to hyaluronic acid where it plumps and hydrates but it's more lightweight. I really love beta glucan. I really do feel like this ingredient performs well in keeping the skin barrier nice and comfortable and nourished. This has a milky consistency to it."
HOW TO REPAIR YOUR SKIN BARRIER - BEST SKIN BARRIER REPAIR PRODUCTS FOR HEALTHY, GLOWING SKIN!
"This is a lovely drugstore option that works really well, great for dryness, great for that tightness, but this is really nice when your skin has that burning sensation and it has that tingling feel to it. So this has several types of ceramides which help to strengthen and repair the barrier but also help to prevent moisture loss. There's also beta glucan which is very similar to hyaluronic acid but beta glucan actually holds on to 10 times more moisture than hyaluronic acid. And this also contains aloe, glycerin, and the list goes on, so we have a lot of humectants in here to keep the skin nice and hydrated but we also have a lot of ingredients to help support that skin barrier at the same time. Now this also has a milky consistency which spreads across the skin really nicely. There's no sticky or tackiness with this serum, and I've also never experienced peeling with this either. So this has paired up nicely with other skincare products. This is fragrance-free, and that's key when your skin is in an angry state."
7 AMAZING GROWTH FACTOR PAIRINGS FOR MAXIMUM RESULTS! ANTI-AGING, TIGHTER SKIN AND MORE!
"This is by Cocokind, the Ceramide Barrier Serum. I have talked about this a lot in the past, it is lovely for skin repair and skin hydration. This pairing will give you that skin repair if you do experience that compromised skin barrier. This is going to speed up wound healing, it's going to prevent transepidermal water loss, it's going to keep that moisture in your skin, provide hydration. This pairing would also be great if you just have dry sensitive skin but also lovely just for skin health, right, just skin barrier function. You can also use these two together alongside retinol or tretinoin if you do experience irritation and dryness. This would be a lovely pairing to use prior to your tretinoin or retinol. I love this pairing a lot."

"I absolutely adore it, it hydrates my skin, it plumps my skin, but then that soothing moisture on top just holds and hugs all that hydration in place. It's really soft but it's not sticky and tacky or greasy. However, my skin was feeling worse and worse. I was using this morning and nighttime, everything else in my routine was consistent, and my skin was not feeling it. It was inflamed, it was looking a lot more red, displaying all those classic symptoms of your barrier not being good: dull skin, uneven skin, red skin, inflamed skin, irritated skin, dehydrated skin, itchy skin, tight skin. I realized I had missed a crucial ingredient here and this is what was causing all the problems: it was gluconolactone, which is a PHA. It's misleading to me a little bit because they're saying it has ceramides, it's for your barrier, it's for a healthy strong barrier, right, and there's two forms of AHA in here. PHA is often referred to as a new generation AHA, so it is often touted as being a lot more gentle for your skin than say glycolic acid is, but it is still a chemical exfoliant."

"The Cocokind Ceramide Barrier Serum is a holy grail serum for skin barrier support and hydration, made with wonderful ingredients to not only reduce transepidermal water loss but also hydrate your skin, keep your skin hydrated, plump, supple, and help support your skin's own ceramide production. Ingredient-wise, it is made with five different ceramides along with ceramide precursors that support your skin's internal ceramic protection, along with a blend of fatty acids and humectants like beta glucan. I love the fact that it is a milky emulsion-like serum that is hydrating but lightweight and fast-absorbing, so very elegant and great to use with your other actives in a very non-irritating way. It doesn't really interact with your other actives, so great to use once a day or twice a day or as needed."
Top Pick: skin barrier support and hydration serum

"My top product for dry or dehydrated skin is the Cocokind Ceramide Barrier Serum. I discovered this one when I was doing my 60 second brand review videos and I saw this looked at the ingredients and I was like the ingredients in this product are so good why have I never tried it and I started using it and sure enough it is a really good formula. The $22 serum has ingredients like propanediol to help increase the moisture retention squalene one of the best moisturizing oils out there glycerin sunflower seed oil and ceramides to help make sure your skin is healed and protected so it can hold on to moisture and then the reason I really fell in love with the product it has PHA and lactic acid both of which are exfoliants that are particularly really good for dry skin. Lactic acid and PHA are humectants which means they're able to retain moisture from the environment in your skin which is super good if you have dry skin but they're also the best exfoliating ingredients out there if you struggle with dryness or dehydration they're very gentle but super effective of getting rid of those dead skin cells on your face and it's hard to find a good product for dry skin with exfoliating ingredients because they're usually targeted at either oilier skin or they're so powerful that people with dry skin might over exfoliate themselves with this one you won't have to worry about it. It's just such a well-rounded ingredient list. Because it has lactic acid and PHA I would recommend using this at night time."

"Cocokind has a great Ceramide Barrier Serum with five different ceramides and lipids that support your skin's natural moisture barrier and a very powerful humectant also known as beta glucan. It's their super saturated 30% glycerin, weirdest freaking texture on Earth, slimy AF, but you'll have to mix very little. It's something that I put in my moisturizer to give my moisturizer extra oomph."

"This is their Ceramide Barrier Serum and this is so lightweight. If you're in a heat wave and you just don't even want to put on moisturizer but you still want to get your ceramides, your hyaluronic acid, your glycerin, your niacinamide in, this is packed with all those things. I think this has like five ceramides in it. It just feels really fantastic. If you kept it in your mini fridge or in your fridge and then put it on, it would be so nice and cooling for these hot summer days."
