What the gurus are saying

Gurus view Clear and Brilliant as a safe, accessible laser option they use regularly on themselves. They praise visible skin improvements and note it is effective for melasma, though one reviewer observed that melasma can sit deeper in the skin and may require ongoing or combination treatments like chemical peels for optimal results.

"Clear and Brilliant, which is also known as Baby Fraxel. It's made by the same company that makes Fraxel, is a fractional laser that creates these microscopic treatment zones within your skin to stimulate a wound healing response similar to micro needling. It also helps a bit with melasma and pigmentation. So that's just like another bonus of that resurfacing treatment."

"Clear and Brilliant is the little sister of Fraxel, they are made by the same company, but Clear and Brilliant is just a lot more gentle, less power. You need more treatments to see results, but the downtime and the cost is a lot less. If you have someone who's just starting to see those signs of skin aging, or someone who isn't seeing those signs of aging but wants to prevent them from really ever showing up, that's where this type of laser really has a role. These lasers are targeting the very superficial aspects of the skin, so you can get some brightening and some very subtle lightening of pigment. Then there is a deeper setting on the Clear and Brilliant where you can get more pore refinement and some improvement in texture, but when I'm talking texture, I'm talking about the earliest of fine lines. I am not talking about treating acne scars, for example."

"Clear and Brilliant is a safe laser for you to get and it can help temporarily with your melasma. Other lasers that are more aggressive like a Fraxel laser can actually flare somebody's melasma, so if I have a patient who's struggling with melasma pigmentation and maybe we have them on a medical protocol but they're also wondering what else they can do to improve their pigment, Clear and Brilliant is often what I recommend. Plus they're going to get some additional anti-aging benefits as well. These are quite gentle. They are performed in a series because you're not really going to see results from just one treatment, but when you do a series you'll really go, okay, this was like worth my spend. Treatments are typically spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. These lasers are so popular in my practice and in other people's practices because they also have basically no downtime."

Is Picosure the Best Laser for Melasma?
"Something that Nina and I have been talking about a lot is that my melasma we've been treating it with chemical peels with Clear and Brilliant, but something I really noticed is that it seems like my melasma is more under my skin like deeper into my skin and it starts with this redness that kind of comes forward eventually and turns into the dark patches."
