What they liked

  • Softer than paper towels or washcloths
  • Doesn't leave film or irritate sensitive skin
  • Fresh, clean towel every use

What they flagged

  • Wasteful despite eco claims
  • White towels stain easily
  • Won't clear acne on its own

What the gurus are saying

The softness stands out as the defining feature, with gurus noting these feel significantly gentler than washcloths or paper towels and cause noticeably less skin irritation. Most who tried them praise the practicality of a fresh towel every use and the bamboo material's relative eco-friendliness, though one dermatologist cautions that the viral claim these clear acne is misleading and notes that washing a regular towel in hot water works just as well. Those with sensitive skin or who dislike rough textures on their face may find these worth the cost; others may want to weigh the convenience against the waste.

"These are nice. You get a really good amount of uses out of them. Sometimes I'll cut them in half because they're pretty big. These are the XL version. They're really nice for if you're just doing a quick morning cleanse or if you don't like to switch towels often. These are good especially if you have acne prone skin. Sometimes your towel can hold a lot of bacteria. So these might be more convenient for some people that don't have the time or patience to cleanse their towels more often."

"I don't use these a lot, but once in a while they come in handy, the Clean Skin Club towels. What I love is sometimes I'll just use them for drying off, and if I wash my brushes or something I'll lay the brushes on the other side of it to get more use from it, or I'll use it to clean up my countertop."

"Even though it's not expensive, I do feel guilty about it because I use so many of them, for my own face and when I give my daughter a bath. These are the XL size, the original, 18 dollars currently. They never go bad, so you can stock up on a year's supply. It's really truly one of the most practical things you'll use in your life, one of my most reused items throughout life."

"I love these things. Paper towels feel rough as a pine cone compared to these Clean Skin Club towels. I ran out of these on one of my counters and I grabbed a paper towel and I used it and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, this feels horrible compared to a Clean Skin Club towel.' And they're made of bamboo. So there is a lot of eco thought that goes into these. Even though they are a little wasteful, they're actually much more sustainable than anything else you would use, including paper towels."
5 Things We Would NEVER Do as Dermatologists
"I was pretty resistant to this concept of using a paper towel on your face, which is how I perceived this. And the more practical this has become for me, as somebody who just has to do so many loads of laundry for a new daughter, I don't have time to be washing my towels all the time and being worried about this. Having a clean towel on your countertop in a box that's soft, that's much softer than a regular paper towel. The practicality and the fact that I'm using a new clean towel every single time when I wash my face is really nice. If my wife is wearing makeup or I'm using a tinted sunscreen, sometimes those white towels, whatever you're using on your face, it doesn't wipe wash off completely when you're washing your face and then they end up on that towel. It is kind of nice to use a clean towel every time and make sure you're not damaging your towels from whatever else is on your face. There is some practicality to this that for some reason has become like a guilty pleasure of mine. They go so far as I think is reasonably possible to minimize waste and to support the environment."
6 DERMATOLOGIST CLEANSING HACKS TO IMPROVE YOUR SKIN
"I had the initial gut reaction that this is unnecessary, like wasteful. But I had them, used them, and I was like, it's impossible to go back. The reason these are like, we like these is every single use is obviously clean, it's fresh. The material can be made of different things including bamboo, but it's relatively eco-friendly, still wasteful, but like relatively eco-friendly. And then it just feels like fabric. This is not like rough. It is the softest thing you'll put on your skin. And it's also very clean. So I think for someone who has a little bit of an expendable budget or dispensable budget, or if you feel like this would fit into your lifestyle, I think this will do right by you and you'll be very happy with how this plays with your skin. The quality is just so good. And once you kind of get into this, it's kind of hard to go back. I had them, I used them one or two times, and I constantly found myself gravitating towards them on my counter until the box was empty."
Best Products of the Year (PART 2): Best Innovation, Cleanser, Sunscreen, and Splurge
"I love these and I know that I get flack because of how much I love them but I keep coming back to them. I had to go find the box from the stash out of reach from my nurses because there's one thing my nurses like to steal of my products and it's the Clean Skin Club towels. I think there's a day-to-day utility with these and a practical application that just really makes it an extraordinary product. You'll find yourself using way more than you thought you would. This is an innovation because it's found its way into our lives and it's really the only product that has done this where it's almost like a new category appearance for us, which is towels ultimately, which seems kind of simple but in a lot of ways it is breakthrough because the technology in these towels is actually quite nice. They're biodegradable towels so they're a little bit better for the environment even though they are disposable. They have the bamboo ones and then they have the regular cellulose ones but ultimately it feels really nice on the skin. There's utility at home for you to use a different towel every day."
Skincare That You DON'T NEED (But Might Want)
"I was shocked at how soft it was. I have actually had my towels for more than 10 years, we got them before we got married and they were hand-me-downs from her parents, so the towels I was using were probably 15 to 20 years old and there is no sharper contrast to these towels and those. I think they did a good job at what they're trying to do. You don't absolutely need it but you might want it. I would consider the experience of this to be like Bounty plus, so it's a much softer towel than a traditional paper towel would be. These are skincare you certainly don't need but you might want. You might either find convenience for them or you may find benefit to your skin. If you're somebody who finds it not something you're actually practically going to do is switch out your towels every night. This takes a really long time to dry."

"The clean skin club towels. I've gone through two boxes, one and a half boxes of these. I'm not quite done with my second box. They came out with a new version of this called healthy aging which I absolutely love. I have tried the other skincare towels and I'm still going through them and they will be in my next empties, fails, and faves video. But I always return to these. These are the absolute best. If you don't like the feel of a washcloth, if that's too rough for you, which it is for me, if you don't want your laundry soap and softener in your skin, I used to use a makeup eraser towel. I just find that this gives my skin just a whole lot less irritation. So I have switched over to those I think gosh three years now. And the clean skin club towel company is amazing. They are just so reputable. I just find them one of the best companies that I work with."

"Clean Skin Club sent me a travel pack of their extra-large cleansing towels. I transitioned to the Clean Skin Club towels about a year and a half ago. I much prefer these to a microfiber towel for cleansing in the evening and a washcloth. They're soft, they help get all the makeup off, they rinse clean, and they're biodegradable. You can pop them in your organics container. So these are my choice for cleansing in the evening."

"The last item I have to share with you are my Clean Skin Club cloths they're 25% off. I have mine in their cute little bamboo box. I love these for cleansing. I prefer them to a washcloth, I prefer them to the Magic Eraser. I just find that not having to worry about whether I've gotten the detergent or the bleach out of my laundry is just very helpful for me in protecting my skin. I have super sensitive skin so if you do you might want to consider them. They're made of viscose bamboo or viscose eucalyptus so you can just put them into your organics. You can also, the larger size, you can cut them in half and you can just use half a cloth for a little bit of savings. I find them to be really helpful during the cleansing step of my skincare."

"I am currently using my Magic Eraser cloth, but I ran out of my very favorite Clean Skin Club cloths and I use those because they do tend to give you a clean one at a time and I do get breakouts of acne and there's supposedly much better for acne prone skin because you do get a clean cloth every time and you're not introducing, if you have sensitive skin like me, introducing trace particles or trace amounts of your detergent and soaps from the towel. So I've had really good luck. I have not had very many breakouts this year at all after I switched to them."

"My favorite cleansing cloths are by Clean Skin Club. I love these for washing at the end of the day, they just make my skin feel so soft, so fresh. I have a little sensitivity to laundry detergents and was tired of dog hair in my makeup erasers and towels, so I switched to these a couple years ago. They're really large, I can use one for about two cleanses, and they're made of bamboo, biodegradable, and go in the organics. They've been my absolute favorite cleansing cloth for a couple years running."

"These Clean Skin Club towels are sort of silly in my opinion. I think they're kind of glorified paper towel. We're drying our face with an active ingredient infused towel. Acne breakouts are not a hygiene issue. You can just frequently wash your towel in hot soapy water."

"I also like to recommend Clean Skin Club towels. These are disposable skincare towels that are soft on the skin. They do not disrupt our skin barrier and they don't harbor all of this bacteria like our classic towels and washcloths can. So that is another thing you can do to really help cut back on acne-causing issues on the skin."

Amazon Prime Day 2023 BEST OF SKINCARE! | The Budget Dermatologist
"My favorite skincare towels by Clean Skin Club. One of my favorite parts of my routine is using these towels, they're so luxurious. Using dedicated skincare towels is really so important because it keeps bacteria off the skin which can be the trigger of acne and other skin problems. It's super soft and gentle on your skin barrier compared to like normal rough towels and washcloths, and these are highly absorbent. I mean it's very thin but super absorbent. You can use it through your whole routine. I take the corner, put some micellar water, I can remove eye makeup that way and then use it to dry my face after cleansing. I use it to clean up my sink area. Very absorbent, very soft, 100 percent biodegradable. The best deal is to get the six pack because you will love these and you will want to use them every day so stock up now."

"Clean Skin Club biodegradable bamboo towels are what I'm going back to. These are the softest thing you're going to feel and made of bamboo. I use these all the time and get a lot of use out of them. I'll put a little bit of makeup remover or micellar water on it and gently wash away my waterproof makeup or any makeup. The thing I love most about them is that they're soft, you can get a lot of use from one a day from morning to night, and they don't harbor bacteria like reusable towels do."

"Out of all of the horrendous terrible awful makeup wipes out there, the Clean Skin Club ones are ones that I actually recommend because yes they are biodegradable, yes they actually are fragrance free, they are more nourishing to skin, and they don't have a bunch of irritants that regular makeup wipes do."

"This is called the Clean Skin Club, it is biodegradable, they're a wonderful company. I've been really stoked and it has changed my skin texture, which is really interesting. My skin texture is so much softer now. I have used like makeup remover towels and stuff before and I'm shocked how well they work, whatever the fibers are and the textiles, how well it can get makeup off. I like the disposable ones and they're biodegradable because they're not going to be harmful for the environment but they're also not going to be collecting bacteria the way a regular towel would. The whole point of those is that because people don't wash their bathroom towels enough, they have promoted this as how you dry your face right without transferring bacteria."
