Heads up: 4 of the 6 experts here were paid by the brand, leaving 2 unpaid. We have kept this score cautious as a result.

What they liked

  • No filmy residue on eyelids
  • Absorbs without heaviness or grease
  • Lightweight gel mixed with richer serum

What they flagged

Nothing. None of the experts who reviewed it raised a problem.

    What the gurus are saying

Dark circles are the main focus here, with niacinamide aimed at brown ones and horse chestnut at blue and purple ones. Gurus also say it brightens and depuffs the under-eye area. The scent is soft and rose-like and fades within minutes, and it has not irritated sensitive skin over weeks of testing. The main doubt is the price, with questions about spending so much on a product for such a small area.

"I genuinely cannot remember if I used it on the day, but this is the one that I usually use."

"I do not understand the Clarins Eye Serum. Clarins does have a vegan line, some of their products are nice and really good, but they're very expensive, they're very fragrant, and this eye serum, why why are we spending so much money to rub this around our eye area? A lot of these products don't even say what they're good for. If it's a wrinkle that's very different than a color versus an under eye bag. A lot of these products don't even distinguish as to what benefit they're going to give you."

"The Double Serum Eye from Clarins is designed to address concerns specific to the eye area like fine lines, darkness under the eye, and puffiness. The application is very relaxing, and I've been reaching for it again and again over the past few months as part of my regular routine."

"This has really helped to keep my eyes looking better. [...] Sometimes there are skincare products that just hit at the right time, the right moment in time for us when we're going through some issues and it just helps us get through that time a lot better. [...] I have a deep appreciation for this product for what it has helped me to do, which is maintain a little bit more of a refreshed and rested look to my eye area when I haven't really been meaningfully doing that off camera."

"This is one of the best brightening eye creams I've tried. It does contain fragrance, but there are no essential oils and none of the fragrant compounds that tend to be most problematic for sensitive skin. The scent is a soft, botanical [...] rose type of scent that [...] doesn't linger [...] more than a few minutes, and even though I have sensitive skin, it hasn't created any irritation for me over the weeks I've been testing it."

"I'm using the Clarins Double Serum Eye. I've been using this for about two months and it's been really great for helping to brighten up my under eye area and gently depuff it. I've been going through a little bit of a difficult period of time lately that can really show up underneath my eyes, but this has been keeping things looking really rejuvenated and refreshed in a way that I deeply appreciate at this point in time. It has a dual texture."

"It's overall the best eye cream for dark circles. [...] Dark circles have multiple causes, including pigmentation and circulation issues, so you have to target those causes directly if you want to see a real improvement. It contains niacinamide to address brown dark circles by reducing hyperpigmentation, and horse chestnut essence to minimize blue and purple dark circles by boosting microcirculation around the eyes."

"As a dermatologist I'm always a little skeptical when a product claims to do everything, because usually that's a red flag, but this is one of the rare exceptions where I've actually looked at the science and thought, okay, this checks out, they've got the right ingredients, and so far my user experience backs it up. [...] I only talk about stuff that I genuinely recommend to my own patients and to my mother."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

    Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
