What the gurus are saying

Gurus agree chemical sunscreens are effective for UV protection, but flagged irritation concerns for sensitive skin types. Key caution: chemical filters like avobenzone and oxybenzone can trigger reactions in some people and should be avoided immediately after chemical peels or other active treatments.

"I honestly think it's better to put nothing on and cover with clothing than to use chemical based sunscreen. Stay away from chemical sunscreens. Which is not true. Sunscreen is an evidence-based way to cut down your skin cancer risk and to prevent sun damage."

"Chemical sunscreens aren't irritating to everyone, but some people, especially those who have sensitive skin, can be super sensitive to things like avobenzone or oxybenzone. You don't want to use those directly after a chemical peel. If you're thinking that you're going to use this and then put on a chemical sunscreen 30 minutes later and walk outside, I would say skip that idea completely and just use this at night."
