What the gurus are saying

The luxurious, heavyweight feel of this cream bronzer, from its exceptional packaging down to its substantial heft, earns consistent praise. It delivers a warm, bronzy-orange tone that blends beautifully into skin, making it particularly well-suited for those who prefer richer, warmer bronzes. The color payoff is perfectly balanced, and thanks to its creamy formula, it even works beautifully as eyeshadow.

"I recently picked up the iconic Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream and it turns out it is the perfect eyeshadow color. I use it just above the crease. As the hoods become more pronounced and they go lower, I have to go higher so that you can see that shadow. It's just to give a little bit of depth to that eye area. I also bring it down just a little bit to the inside corner."

"My favorite luxury product would probably be the cream bronzer from Chanel. I do love a cream bronzer from Chanel, and there's something about Chanel like it's never going to be bettered in terms of packaging. It's the best packaging in the world, it's the best marketing in the world. Everything about it is just, even to this day, even though I've been to the labs, I've seen behind the velvet curtain, like I know what's going on, there's something about it and the heavy weight that sort of thing."

"I went to the Chanel store and she tried it on me and I absolutely love it. It gives you just the right amount of color. It's not those contour really harsh lines. It's ideal for daily use, right? If you're going to work and you don't want to contour like Kim Kardashian, then this is really really good. And obviously you can intensify it by using a bronzer if you want, but I feel you don't need to."

"I used to always use that really expensive Chanel bronzer, the cream bronzer that's in a little tub. That one looks a little bit more orangey. If you're trying to figure out if that's one that you want, it's really nice, it blends beautifully, but it's a little bit more bronzy orange."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
