What the gurus are saying

This cream earns praise for delivering three things at once: sunscreen, moisturizer, and niacinamide treatment in one streamlined step. However, experts split sharply on wearability. Some find it convenient and note the niacinamide may help calm redness and protect against sun damage. Others report it migrates into the eyes throughout the day, causing burning and blurry vision, a problem made worse because both the chemical sunscreen and the niacinamide sting when they reach the eye area. Those with sensitive eyes may want to patch-test or consider an alternative.

"The Cetaphil Healthy Radiance Whipped Day Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 came out this year. It has broad spectrum SPF 30, plus it has 2% niacinamide in it, so it can actually triple as your niacinamide treatment. It's a moisturizer, and it has a lot of moisturizing ingredients, plus it's fragrance-free. [...] You could just cleanse, throw all this on in the morning, and bolt out the door."

"I did try their Healthy Radiance Sunscreen and it burned my eyes - it's one of those that gets into the eyes and causes blurry vision."

"However, it ends up seeping into the eyes as you wear it. [...] Not only does it have chemical sunscreen ingredients which can burn when they get in your eyes, but it also has niacinamide which can burn when it gets in the eyes, and it has resveratrol which is an antioxidant. Those are great ingredients but you do not want them seeping into your eyes. This was a fail for me solely because of the issues with it seeping into the eyes."

"This is a chemical sunscreen. It looks like they left the peppermint out of this version, which is good. Niacinamide may also help in reducing the extent of oxidative stress in the skin upon exposure to UV."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
