"This one provides really lightweight hydration, but also has that broad spectrum UVA UVB protection. It helps control shine, and it will absorb some of that surface oil throughout the day. It's clinically tested for use on sensitive and acne prone skin. It's totally fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, non-irritating. The key ingredients are the oolosome technology, which provides this effective sun protection with less irritation. Also has zinc gluconate and panthenol."

"The Cetaphil Derma Control Oil Absorbing Moisturizer with SPF 30 is great because it's lightweight, fast absorbing, but again contains ingredients including zinc and mattifying particles that basically helps to control sebum while at the same time creating this smooth mattifying finish so that way your skin doesn't look immediately shiny afterwards. So great to use to keep your skin mattified throughout the day."

"I love this Moisturizer and sunscreen in one. Number one, it significantly simplifies your routine but it also helps to offer some protection, skin barrier support and mattifying properties all at the same time. So it has zinc as well as microparticles that again kind of imparts that mattifying property and it's really lightweight, non-sticky, really ideal if you have a combination oily skin, acne prone skin."

"This one is for oily sensitive skin according to the packaging. The nice thing about this one is that it's great for oily skin, it's got starch and silica which are good oil absorbers, but at the same time it doesn't feel too heavy. I also think it's a little bit hydrating as well. I don't think it's drying just because it has these ingredients. It does leave you with a nice finish. It's a chemical sunscreen so it blends with every skin type. I've tried this on every skin type from one to six and everybody agrees that this will leave you no white cast and blends super well. It does have a nice hydrating finish. People with oilier skin tend to love this."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
