What the gurus are saying

Gurus credit CeraVe with achieving massive organic popularity and note the science behind ceramides for barrier support. However, there's a notable split: while many users see real results, a significant portion report irritation, which some attribute to higher preservative levels used for shelf stability. The line works well for some skin types but isn't universally tolerated.

"Basically anything from Cerave had huge viral moments without any of the brands input. The brands did nothing. But they got so much from this."

"There's evidence that applying ceramides to the skin as you will find in all of CeraVe's products can help in stimulating that. The CeraVe Healing Ointment is great because you have the ceramides there which may help with your barrier and it also has hyaluronic acid which can help in improving moisture content in the stratum corneum and ultimately that really helps your barrier to go along and act right and mature properly and function better when the water content is optimized."

"CeraVe is one of them where a lot of people have great luck with it and then there's a rather bigger percentage of people that just for some reason the products irritate them. I'm guessing it's probably they probably use a lot more preservatives than some other brands do because of how long products sit from manufacturing to shelves to the customer's shelf before they use it. I have a feeling some of these brands probably use a heck of a lot more preservatives than some other brands do."
