What the gurus are saying

Gurus who favor it praise the lightweight texture, subtle mattifying effect from starch, and suitability for oily skin. However, the community is divided on tolerability. Some flag isopropyl myristate as a high-ranking comedogenic ingredient and surfactants in a leave-on product as concerning for acne-prone and sensitive skin. One reviewer reported stinging, burning, and neurosensory discomfort upon application, plus pilling issues under sunscreen, though these experiences diverge from other testers who found the formula comfortable.

The Truth About Pore Size: Can You Really Shrink Them?
"If you have oilier skin, you can get the CeraVe Oil Control Moisturizing Gel Cream. This is their newer one, and it has niacinamide and it has hyaluronic acid. It's very lightweight."

"The oil control moisturizing gel cream, if you have oily skin you're going to love this. That mattifying effect from the starch is great, it's subtle, it won't leave you flat, but it's a great one."

"It feels nice, it's not terribly tacky. I mean it's a little tacky but it doesn't feel greasy or anything. I would say overall it's a pretty matte finish. It doesn't have that silicone feeling you get with a really silicone-dense type product. It feels pretty nice."

CeraVe 🆕️ Oil Control Moisturizing Gel-Cream Face Moisturizer with Silica To Rebalance Oily Skin
"The biggest questionable ingredient for acne-prone skin is isopropyl myristate, and that one is pretty highly comedogenic and it is the one, two, three, four, five, sixth ingredient, so beware of that if you have acne-prone skin. And then there's some fatty alcohols, carbomer. Overall, with the exception of that one ingredient for acne-prone skin, it's probably okay, and that sodium methyl cocoyl taurate is probably going to be okay for most people, although for some people with very sensitive skin it's something to watch out for."
CeraVe 🆕️ Oil Control Moisturizing Gel-Cream Face Moisturizer with Silica To Rebalance Oily Skin
"I don't get excited when I see ingredients like surfactants in a leave-on product typically they're meant to be rinsed off of the skin, so that concerns me a little bit for those with sensitive skin. For acne-prone skin, the biggest questionable ingredient is isopropyl myristate, which is pretty highly comedogenic and it is the sixth ingredient, so beware of that if you have acne-prone skin."

"At Baseline, I know so many of my viewers, so many of the audience at Baseline finds that CeraVe moisturizers burn and sting. If it caused me burning and stinging and you already burn and sting with most CeraVe moisturizers, I would only imagine that this one likely will burn and sting you. It's not comfortable to use. It's not something I will ever repurchase again or use myself. I don't know that this is really adding a whole lot."

"The texture spreads easily on the skin and it's not greasy, but this actually caused me some discomfort applying it. For me personally, this is a new experience with a CeraVe product. I've never had this issue before, but it caused a little neurosensory discomfort. I feel a little tingle and a little bit of warmth, especially on my cheeks, which is an area where you have a high density of blood vessels. It's uncomfortable, almost like the beginnings of wanting to itch. And mind you, my skin is not hyperreactive. I don't have rosacea. I don't have particularly sensitive skin. This is the only thing that I put on that causes me discomfort."
*NEW* CeraVe Oil Control Moisturizing Gel-Cream Review
"If you are someone who likes to use a moisturizer in the morning, I found that this product led to peeling of my sunscreen. You would put this on in the morning after cleansing, allow it to absorb, and then you're going to put sunscreen on over it. I got peeling with pretty much every sunscreen I tried putting on over this, so sunscreen did not layer on over this particularly well. It moisturizes the skin just fine, it does what it's supposed to do, it's a moisturizer, helps combat dry skin, and it does dry with a matte finish. But you've introduced this new issue which maybe not an issue for you but for me it's that burning and stinging discomfort, and you've also introduced an issue where it pills under sunscreen, which I've never had happen with other CeraVe products."
