What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this lotion as an affordable, versatile workhorse suitable for sensitive skin, eczema, rosacea, and all skin types. The recurring strengths are its hydrating yet lightweight feel, ceramide-rich formula, and fragrance-free composition. One reviewer flagged a past reformulation that increased niacinamide levels and caused irritation for some users, though the brand has since adjusted back; a few users note niacinamide sensitivity remains a consideration. Minor split on texture: most appreciate the lightweight hydration, while one reviewer prefers the thicker intensive version for body use.

"The CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion is very nice. It's got shea butter, mineral oil, niacinamide, grapeseed oil. The mineral oil in particular is really hydrating, so that stuff's really nice. It's a bit thicker than some options, but this stuff is really nice."

"It's very moisturizing and wonderful if you have rosacea or very sensitive skin. It's super mild. This is wonderful on the face as well as the body. It has niacinamide, which is really good for the moisture barrier and also good for hyperpigmentation. It also has panthenol and avocado oil. It's fragrance-free, which is important if you have sensitive skin or skin conditions like rosacea or atopic dermatitis on the face, since fragrance can aggravate redness and irritation."

*BEST* Body Lotions For Summer 2024 | Dermatologist Recommended
"The lotion is hydrating and lightweight. This is great if you have atopic dermatitis or any skin issue going on where you need a moisturizer that's not heavy or greasy. It has petrolatum in it which helps to reduce water loss, but it also has dimethicone as well as silicone so these are silicones which also reduce water loss but feel a lot more lightweight on the skin in comparison to just straight up petrolatum. So it's a really good option as a side note you can use this as a facial moisturizer as well. It doesn't bill itself as a gel cream but it is kind of the texture and feeling of a gel cream."

"CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion is essentially a niacinamide serum, good for anti-aging and moisture barrier. It also has ceramides and hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid can plump the skin surface, diminishing the appearance of fine lines. It's fragrance-free. This is one of my all-time favorites. It's great for mature skin, for improving the look of sun damage on the chest, the arms, the legs. It's very hydrating. You can use it on the face, however, if you're using a retinol on your face already or a prescription retinoid, I don't recommend double dipping."

"The moisturizer is really great. I actually used it last night. I have so many moisturizers in rotation that I use from head to toe and this is a favorite. It has avocado oil in it. They reformulated it a year or so ago and added panthenol and niacinamide and I think it's an improvement. A lot of people were frustrated by that because some people are sensitive to niacinamide, but I think it's a good reformulation."

"The lotion was a lightweight lotion aimed at daily moisturizing. With all three products being formulated with ceramides, as well as one other unique aspect of their product design, their patented multivesicular emulsion technology. Now this technology allowed for the gradual release of moisturizing ingredients over 24 hours, providing long lasting hydration and enhanced skin barrier restoration."

"CeraVe's moisturizing lotion always had a really nice dose of niacinamide in it, and people love this, they got great results and it definitely was a cult favorite for a reason. Then CeraVe decided to increase the amount of niacinamide across their whole skincare range, and as a result people started complaining their former favorites are now burning and irritating their skin. A lot of people struggled to work out why, but it was because they really hyped up the amount of niacinamide and it just wasn't agreeing with people's skin. Now that the niacinamide craze has kind of ended, you're seeing CeraVe now reformulating back downwards the amount of niacinamide to a much more responsible level."

"When it comes to a body moisturizer, I actually like the experience of their intensive moisturizing lotion the best between the regular lotion and the regular cream. The regular lotion and cream dry down a little bit better, but I kind of like that lipid slip that stays around a little bit longer. It feels a little bit greasier, like a more oily afterfeel with more slip, but I like that feeling when I'm moisturizing the body. It feels more like the lip barrier than any of the other products from CeraVe."

"Even a great lotion like the CeraVe lotions can irritate and burn your skin even the Vanicream lotion, an extremely minimalistic lotion, can burn the heck out of my skin once my skin barrier is already compromised. So with that, I highly recommend switching to ointments. The vehicle matters tremendously. The petrolatum ointment base, something about it just is very soothing and is not irritating for a compromised barrier."

"With the three essential ceramides, this lotion also contains hyaluronic acid, so it's a great multi-functional moisturizer that can be used by pretty much everyone including the whole family. It's fragrance free and paraben free, so it's suitable even for those with sensitive and eczema problem skin. The ceramides are encapsulated in this technology that not only delivers them more effectively but also releases them over time, so it provides long lasting hydration."

"I'm recommending the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion that retails for about $11.69. This is a great one because it comes in a pretty decent size, you can also use it for face and body, but it's lightweight yet at the same time moisturizing and it's fast absorbing, so great to use in the morning under sunscreen. It contains three essential ceramides along with hyaluronic acid that's overall going to really keep our skin moisturized and hydrated throughout the day."

"It's great because it helps with dryness even within your moisture barrier within one week. It's a niacinamide base, it's got panthenol, vitamin E, these are things that are great for the skin barrier to make sure that your skin is nourished. Ceramides are really important as well, and CeraVe is a great brand for ceramides, it contains the three essential ceramides for function of that skin barrier so you don't lose moisture and your skin is a lot more calmer as well."

"A very popular moisturizer is CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. If you're going to use that on oily skin, you could make your skin worse. Even though it says it's non-comedogenic, if you've already got oily skin, just putting something thick on is going to help block that even more, so you're going to end up with more acne."

"CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion is really nice because it's got your ceramides and glycerin based moisturizers. I literally use it on my whole body as well, and I even use it on my kids so it's great, it's very gentle. You're sealing with hyaluronic acid and then you're locking that in, so you're getting the moisture from this and it gets down at multiple different depths which is really important."
CeraVe Skincare | Complete Skincare Product Guide and Review By Dr. Somji
"The moisturizing lotion I really like this product. It's in a nice pump which protects the ceramides which is fantastic. It says it's fragrance free, it's got three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid. So basically what you're doing is delivering a molecule such as hyaluronic acid into the skin and then locking it with those ceramides over the top so it stops that transepidermal water loss. You've got aqua, glycerin, capric triglyceride, all of these things are nice emollients just to build that layer. You've got dimethicone in here, which is essentially silicone. Dimethicone is non-comedogenic, it's not harmful to the skin, helps products smear quite nicely over the skin and it provides a nice skin barrier. That's one of the top ingredients in CeraVe and that's what's actually helping your skin barrier."

"CeraVe is nice. It's great for moisturizing after retinoids. You want a moisturizing cream where there's options like CeraVe, and it works well in the retinol sandwich method where you apply your moisturizer, then your retinoid, then follow up with another layer of moisturizer."

Dermatologist Reviews: Essentials in your Winter Skincare Routine!
"CeraVe makes a nice lotion, those are all great and convenient in a pump. A lot of my male patients like it because they are so resistant to wearing moisturizers they will just do a pump because they don't want to open up a jar stick their hand in and a pump is great just one-handed boom get it on onto damp skin great. CeraVe has ceramides that help fill in those holes in your skin barrier so it helps restore that skin barrier so that you can hold on the moisture better, has hyaluronic acid as well so you got the skin barrier component that's being repaired plus you have the hydration from the hyaluronic acid."

"Before going to bed apply a nice layer of moisturizing cream from CeraVe. This is a body moisturizer but you can also use it for the face if it's the summer time and you want something a little bit more lightweight or if you have oily skin you definitely want to go with a lighter weight option and the lotion is quite nice by CeraVe."

"The second ingredient has glycerin which I love because it's a humectant, holds water on the top of her skin, plus it's got ceramides which is excellent. It's a good hydrator but you should know there are no other actives in this product, so it is a hydrating moisturizer and that's it. There's nothing in it to stimulate collagen or help with anything else, so just to know this is a nice basic moisturizer."

"One moisturizer that I will often recommend to my patients who have perioral dermatitis who want to use a moisturizer is the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion. This is a pretty basic gentle moisturizer and it's fairly lightweight, and that's why I like it because it's unlikely to exacerbate the perioral dermatitis. But it might not be your favorite moisturizer to use every day all the time, but again this is just while you're dealing with the perioral dermatitis and eventually you may go back to other moisturizers that you prefer."

"The CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion has a texture and formulation which is very lightweight, fast absorbing, it's non-greasy, and is best suited for normal to dry skin in humid climates and for daytime use. You can even use it on schoolgoing children. Patients who dislike using very heavy creams will also enjoy using it. It maintains hydration without clogging pores. It can be layered under sunscreen and even children and schoolgoing kids can use this as kids have immature skin barrier, higher water loss and are more prone to eczema. This works well in elderly as well as they have reduced ceramide synthesis, a thinner epidermis and increased itch. CeraVe lotion improves comfort and reduces risk of skin tears and infections."

"The formulation is not oily, not sticky, and it's very pleasant to apply. Along with ceramides, it also has glycerin, triglycerides, hyaluronic acid, and cholesterol. All these components work together synergistically to hydrate and moisturize the skin. The CeraVe lotion meant for dry to very dry skin is perfectly suited for those with eczema-prone skin or atopic dermatitis. This helps in soothing the skin, and it not only moisturizes the skin for a long time, it also reduces transepidermal water loss. It helps in repairing the skin barrier and also hydrates the skin for long. You can use the lotion formulation for large body parts as it has easy spreadability. You can use it on the face and on the body wherever you want to. I even like to use it on my heels as it helps in preventing cracked heels."
