What the gurus are saying

Viniferine replaces vitamin C in this formula to brighten skin and address dark spots without the irritation that ingredient can bring, supported by squalane and bisabolol for sensitive skin. That means those prone to vitamin C reactions can use this without worry, while gurus praise the brightening results and antioxidant support. At 52 pounds it's pricey, and the lack of actual dark spot testing means it's unclear whether it truly fades dark spots.

"That's the Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum. It does have really good ingredients, but it does have fragrance, which I don't love. She hasn't been using any fragrance products so far, so I'm interested to see if she sticks to keeping fragrance at a minimum, because that would be the best case scenario."

"The main ingredient is viniferine, derived from resveratrol, which has antioxidant benefits, and the formula also contains squalane and bisabolol to prevent the irritation some people experience with vitamin C. This is for anyone with dark spots and hyperpigmentation who has sensitive skin and is looking to brighten their skin without irritation. If you've found vitamin C to be a little too sensitive for your skin in the past, this is a great substitution."

"I thought I would hate the Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum, as there are very few Caudalie products I actually like, but this is one I enjoyed. It wasn't great, it was good, [...] more of a nice surprise. I couldn't tell you if the grape derived vitamin C fades dark spots [...] because I didn't have any, [...] but it was very good at giving my skin an overall pick me up, probably due to the antioxidants and brightening ingredients. It's 52 pounds worth of nice, though not for me, but nice if you have that money."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
