What the gurus are saying

A lightweight feel paired with real moisture: this combination earns repeated praise from gurus, especially as a fit for oily or acne-prone skin and anyone using retinoids. Most report smooth work with sunscreen; one found it too thin for combination skin, reporting pilling under every sunscreen tested. Ceramides and niacinamide support the barrier, making it solid value for most.

"This is super lightweight but not drying. It's great even for dry skin. Even though it's a gel cream, it's just wonderful to go from spring into summer if you want really lightweight skin care. This by itself gives a nice little healthy glow but not like a greasy shiny look because it's just a Moisturizing Gel Cream. It's simple but it's so nice on the skin and it's weightless. Weightless hydration on the skin with protection, no makeup days. Obsessed with these and such a good price point which we love here on the budget derm channel."

"This one's the BYOMA Moisturizing Gel Cream. It's 16 bucks at Ulta. This one's a glycerin based gel. I would say this one's better for normalish skin types or dry skin types, but I really like BYOMA. They've got some really nice products. A lot of them tend to be fragrance-free. And this one sets to a really, I would say, more of a matte finish. So pretty nice moisturizer. So it does tend to be sticky though. That's the one thing I'll point out. It tends to set to a little bit of a tacky finish, but it's got ceramides, green tea, it's got fatty acids, it's got panthenol. It's really wonderful for 16 bucks. The packaging is great. Seems like a lot of plastic for a package, but I do appreciate the square packaging because it makes it really easy to stack them in my system of storage."

"Byoma does it again with their Moisturizing Gel Cream. It's lightweight, it's affordable, it's barrier supportive, and it's a great everyday option if you don't need much weight."

"Bioma Moisturizing Gel Cream has got ceramides and niacinamide in it. It's a light moisturizer, it's in cute packaging, and actually teens love it, so that's one as a parent I would purchase. If you had to pick between Bioma and Bubbles, I'd probably pick Bioma."

"I like this product, it's a simple hydrating cream with niacinamide in it. It's not revolutionary, it's a very simple formula, you could even look at CeraVe for example, it's got quite similar ingredients and similar feel, but I do like it and I would recommend it."

"As gel creams go, it is a bit of a richer texture. It's not greasy or oily, though. It has ceramides, which are excellent for the skin barrier. And it also has niacinamide, with all of the pluses and minuses of niacinamide. It has tea leaf extract, which may offer some antioxidants, panthenol, the moisturizing B vitamin, and glycerin, a humectant. If you're looking for a fragrance-free facial moisturizer that won't feel greasy or heavy, but gets the job done for moisturizing the skin, there's nothing wrong with this. It's a great option. This is a particularly good facial moisturizer, I would say for someone maybe in their late teens, 20s, 30s. Not to say that if you're 40 and plus this wouldn't be good for you, but someone who maybe is coping with acne breakouts, is using acne treatments like topical retinoids, and they're looking for a lightweight facial moisturizer that will combat the dryness and irritation one might expect with some of those treatments, but not be greasy or heavy, this is a great option. And as a side note, it also works as an eye cream. If you are looking for an eye cream to moisturize the skin around your eyes to plump up and diminish dehydration wrinkles, this is something you could use around your eyes for that purpose. I don't have anything negative to say about it, but it's not as jazzy as far as the wow factor in terms of plumpness and hydration that I get from it in comparison to a lot of the Korean moisturizers that I'm always raving about. But it's good. In the landscape of gel creams, it's not the top tier."

"Another brand that's running discounts right now is BYOMA. If you've shopped for skincare at Target you have probably noticed their super cute packaging. I have tried pretty much every product from the range and I really like a lot of them, I recommend them all the time on my channel. I'd say my favorite is probably the BYOMA Moisturizing Gel Cream, which is currently 20% off. I typically use their gel moisturizer when I'm in a little bit more of a dry environment but I still want that invisible moisturizer feel on my skin. It does a great job of deeply moisturizing without looking too greasy."

"For me it would have to be their Moisturizing Gel Cream, first of all it just wasn't moisturizing enough for me, I have combination skin and I found it felt like a serum more than a finishing product, and secondly it didn't really work with any sunscreen, out of the 20 sunscreens I tested with this every single one would peel with this moisturizer, but so many people love this moisturizer and I completely get why."

"This right here is a Moisturizing Gel Cream. It's a tri ceramide complex with niacinamide, remember it's that B vitamin our body naturally makes, as well as that green tea antioxidant, and this is just a nice fluffy lightweight moisturizer. With one pump you're getting the perfect amount. It's a great choice, you get a lot for your money, you can get it at Target, and this is very similar to Drunk Elephant at a fraction of the price."

"The BYOMA Moisturizing Gel Cream, I've talked about this many times on my channel and this really is a perfect formulation for the summer months, but honestly this is great for all year round. It does have that nice moisture to it from that creaminess, but then of course that gel just creates more of that lightweight feel so it doesn't feel heavy on the skin whatsoever. It always pairs up nicely with all of my skincare products, including my sunscreen and of course my makeup. I have mentioned before in the past that this is very very similar and comparable to the CeraVe PM facial lotion, which I love. I also feel like this is a little bit more moisturizing than the CeraVe PM, of course based on my experience with this. Now this one has niacinamide, it also has green tea, which is an antioxidant, and there is also triceramides which will again help to strengthen and repair the skin barrier. So I really love this, it's a great option if you are looking for something that is lightweight but still moisturizing enough, and the niacinamide in here really is great if you have oily skin, so this can help to reduce excessive oil, great if you're acne prone."
