What the gurus are saying

This cream sinks in without leaving skin oily or congested, making it a rare find for those who need serious nourishment but have struggled with heavy moisturisers in the past. Gurus praise how the squalane and omega fatty acids lock in moisture and shield skin from water loss, so it works especially well when skin is dry or dehydrated. The one thing to keep in mind is the price point, which lands on the higher side for a moisturiser.

"The Biossance Squalane Omega Repair Cream is a very nourishing cream without being greasy, from a category I'd have shunned a couple of years ago. Now I need something more nourishing, and this is great because it's not oily, doesn't break me out and works a charm. It has squalane, ceramides and omega fatty acids, everything you want, and it really melts into the skin like a dream. Great product if you don't know it already."

"I really enjoy Biossance their Squalane Omega Repair Cream. I love this moisturizer. It's 60 bucks, we've got ceramide, shea butter, squalane, vitamin E, and hazelnut oil. It's wonderful, no fragrance or anything like that, but it is pricey."

"I use this at night as like a thick moisturizer for my oily prone skin. If I can get a little scraping of it you can see that it tents up way more, it almost stands up thick and has its own shape and form, and that just shows you how insanely hydrating and lipid dense this one is."

"The Biossance Squalane Omega Repair Cream is phenomenal. I have been going through this, I barely have any left because it is just that good, and I have had to rely on this when my skin is dry, dehydrated, and hurting. It has both squalane as well as omega fatty acids which really help to nourish and protect the skin. These oils help to lock in moisture deep in the skin, but they also help to fend off dryness from the outside. When you apply them to the skin they soak in, they coat the skin, but then they protect you from losing water from the inside of the skin out, which is called transepidermal water loss. It prevents that from happening, but also it prevents the dry, blistery crack from the outside world from being able to touch your skin because it coats the skin so well. This is phenomenal, and this is also a really good eco-friendly option because of the glass packaging."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
