What the gurus are saying

Gurus agree these strips deliver satisfying immediate results and can help beginners see quick pore improvement, but stress the effect is temporary and surface-level only. The recurring concern is irritation during removal; while some find them tolerable, others report significant skin damage including epidermis peeling and hyperpigmentation. Long-term pore refinement requires consistent skincare habits, not strips alone.

"I love a good pore strip. I think that people have demonized them for so long just because they don't have a good understanding of what they are. The ones that I particularly like are from Bioré. They've had a patent on the technology. When you wet it, it polarizes and it actually attracts the pore contents as opposed to some other methods like those old peel off masks that are just like acting like an adhesive and can be a little bit more damaging to the skin. I don't think that they're like really the be all end all of having like nice refined pores, but I do think that they can be helpful, especially if somebody's like at the beginning of their skin care journey and they want a quick fix that's going to improve the appearance of their pores quickly. I still use them."

"We've got a Bioré pore strip on a mostly willing participant here, but pay attention as it comes off because these are not just normal sebaceous filaments."

"These pore strips, whether it be the Bioré one or you know a knockoff brand, they can kind of help remove some oiliness within the pore but it's not like a permanent change or anything. It's not like actually affecting long-standing change in terms of blackheads. The main issue with these is that as you peel them off they can be kind of irritating to the skin, not a good option for everybody."

"That was probably the most traumatizing thing I applied to my face where it actually peeled the epidermis off of my nose. So, be very careful of those adherent pore strips that can be traumatizing to the skin. It left some hyperpigmentation for a bit. I had to treat it with some secoplast balm B5 from Loros Pose and wear lots of sunscreen, even tinted sunscreen to prevent that hyperpigmentation from worsening and it eventually cleared. But I was pretty upset that that pore strip that was sent to me from Bioré actually was way too traumatizing."

The Truth About Pore Size: Can You Really Shrink Them?
"I remember from when I was like in med school or even maybe undergrad. You apply it to clean skin that strip and you let sit for a few minutes and you peel it off and it's so gratifying seeing all those little columns of trapped keratin, dead skin cells and sebum in each pore being pulled out by this adhesive tape. But it is temporary relief. It's not going to give you relief longstanding where you're going to have clear pores. It's just taking out what you have at the moment. And of course, if you don't change your habits, your cleansing habits and practices, you will have clogging of those pores."
