What the gurus are saying

This $79 cleanser melts makeup away effectively, earning praise from makeup wearers, yet its nine-ingredient formula strikes others as far too expensive when identical ingredients are available elsewhere for much less. Those watching the price-to-ingredient value may want to explore alternatives; those prioritizing strong makeup removal might find the performance worth the cost.

"This cleanser is $79. Cleansers are like the cheapest products to produce, so for most brands their cleanser is their most affordable product, and in my opinion there's no reason you should be spending over $40 for a cleanser. Looking at the ingredient list, there's only nine ingredients for $80, and unless one of these ingredients translates to the sweat of Jesus, there is no way they can justify charging $80 for this. Normally I'm very pro minimal ingredient list, but it's not just that this one is simple, it's that all of the ingredients are so common and so affordable that you can find them in so many other products for a fraction of the price. Safe to say I do not recommend this product."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
