What the gurus are saying

This foaming cleanser effectively reduces excess sebum and suits oily skin, though those with dehydrated skin may find it too drying. Some find it especially helpful when the weather is warmer. Experts noted the formula combines zinc and copper sulfates for antibacterial action with lactic acid for gentle exfoliation, though some prefer to avoid fragrance in their skincare.

"This is a sebium gel cleanser, and it's essentially just a hydrating wash with fragrance in it. No actives for acne. And in my opinion, not really worth the money. I would never recommend something with fragrance in it anyway. So this one's a no from me."

"Bioderma Intense Purifying Cleansing Active Foaming Gel with salicylic acid and glycolic acid in. I love this kind of stuff when the weather is hotter. It helps reduce excess sebum. It's formulated for oily and acne prone skin. I don't have acne, but I'm very breakout prone in my oily T-zone. Obviously with the salicylic acid and glycolic acid helping smooth out skin texture, helps with breakouts, congested pores, but I also have zinc and copper sulfates, I believe, as well and vitamin E as well, which help soothe a little bit. But yeah, perfect for when my skin is producing a little bit more oil than I'd like. This product completely clears the pores from my nose."

"I really like the bioderma cleansing gels, they come in handy pump tops and they work really well. The bioderma cebum cleansing gel is specifically made for acne prone skin, but it can be a little stripping if your skin is dehydration prone."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.
